I am trying to set up my calendar so that unregistered guest will be able to view items posted by members on the board. I am sure it is in the settings somewhere but i cannot find it.

Well the option in Guest permissions View the calendar.
Now if you mean the threads that can be created when a calender entry is made then that will be an all or nothing deal. What you can do is make a specific board for all calender entries and then make it local permission and give Guest access to that board. But if you have people creating threads linked to the calender in any board then I don't think it's possible.
