We would like guests to continue posting in the guest section, but not be able to post pics or url's since we sometimes get porn spammers doing their stuff in the guest area. There are no current permissions to set this up and no addon packages that I could find. Please let me know if I missed it somewhere.
Thanks.
A lot of forum admins disable posting for guests because of their ability to spam with urls and pics, so this would be a nice feature built into the system as it would allow more forums to have guest sections available.
I just found a mod that stops urls (not sure if it stops pics), but there is no Download option next to the header for the Package Installer to take over, looks like it has to be installed manually but I have no ftp access to the forum site.
Lainaa10. No Spam by Guests!
Package Type: Modification
Version: 0.2
Author: GTSdll
Location of file: http://mods.simplemachines.org/downloads/369/NoSpamByGuests_020.zip
Description: This small modification makes guests and spam-bots unable to post any links on your forum.
It works like a charm on my forum, it keeps all the spam bots away
When a guest tries to post a message that contains a link, he will not be able to submit the message and gets informed that he should register, if he still wants to.
It might not work with 1.1.4
LainaaCompatible With: 1.0.5, 1.0.6, 1.0.7, 1.1 RC1, 1.1 RC2, 1.1 RC3, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3
This mod has the code to do exactly the lot (urls and pics) except it limits all users to have to have posted at least 10 posts (fixed instead of a selectable amount such as 1), and it doesn't work with 1.1.4 :(
Lainaa40. GarbledURLs [ Download ]
Package Type: Modification
Version: 1.0
Author: KGIII
Location of file: http://mods.simplemachines.org/downloads/563/GarbledURLs.zip
Description: This makes it so that people who have less than 10 posts can't post a URL with either the URL tag or by automated URL processing done by SMF. Any attempts to post one will result in plain text that doesn't benefit the forum SPAMer in any way including search engine ranking or the likes - the resulting text will not even be a link.
On that page, try adding ;version_emulate=1.1.2 to the end of the URL in the website address bar, and then process the modified URL. This should allow you to at least be able to attempt to install those mods.
Please delete this thread, as I got GarbledURLS to work thanks to this thread:-
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=152311.msg1327255#msg1327255
The version_emulate=1.1.2 trick didn't work on the other mods, but GarblesURLS ended up being exactly what I needed, just had to change 10 posts to 1 post.
