Hi there,
I'm trying (yes, 'trying') to convert my board from phpBB to SMF.. and while all seems to be going well.. when I run the phpbb2_to_smf.php and land in the screen where it prompts for the two board paths, and then the SMF Database password, I enter my password.. and it keeps saying that it's incorrect.
Any ideas why?
Make sure you're giving it the password to the account you installed SMF with. You may wish to verify your settings in the Server Settings portion of the admin area, or in Settings.php.

The new revision of the converter (which will be released when 1.0 is) would give you this error message:
Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of phpBB2. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it.
In any event, as explained on the converter, the user for the SMF database *must* have access to read from the phpBB database. Many have found it easiest to simply put SMF in the same database as the phpBB install (which causes no problems) but, depending on your control panel, it may be easy to simply allow one user access to both databases.

Ok, I think I've gone over and over this so many times now that I'm not seeing things straight.
Is there anywhere I can get step by step info about installing the SMF directly into the old phpBB database?
I think I've got to a point where I'm getting progessively dumber the more I work on this.

When you get to the page asking you for your MySQL info, use the same database info that you're using for phpBB (same database name, username and password). As long as the table prefix is something other than phpBB_ (or whatever phpBB uses now), you shouldn't run into any problems. In fact, I recommend just leaving it at smf_ unless you have a good reason for not using that one.
This is when installing from a download here.. rather than from Fantastico in cPanel?
Yes. I've never installed it via Fantastico, so I can't give you instructions from there.

No problem. SMF has only been available through Fantastico for a few days, so I'm glad to know it's being used that way :)
Ahh ok.. now I know why I've never noticed it there before.
It seems great, I've worked with phpBB, Invision & Ikonboard.. and so far SMF is superior.
