Note: I honestly am not sure where this belongs at so please excuse my stupidity.
Alright, I was wondering about the update from 1.1.x to 2.0 and have been thinking about it for quite a while. I have ALOT of mods installed, some of them by hand others by packages, alot few of the packages did not come with uninstalls and I really prefer not to uninstall them by hand. I also cannot remember very well what changes I made by hand and yada yada... I also know I am going to have to start with new themes...
The big question is, Can I just delete the SMF Directory and reinstall it then connect it to the current mySQL database and have the same Tables/Boards/Posts?
I do not have a hold on the version, I thought I would ask before it came out to public though.

The big question to me is how did you get hold of the 2.0 version as I don''t see a spicy blue badge under your nick?

Ah, ok then. Now to your question. My advise to you is to upgrade it directly to the 2.0 version without doing any deletion, re-install and such. Un-installing of mods first wouldn''t harm either
Thanks You babjusi, I will look into it. If it doesn't work out the way I have it though, is what I asked still possible to do?
You are welcome.
There is no reason why it shouldn''t work but in the very off chance that it won''t you can make a thorough backup of the 1.1.4 forum files and the database, delete the forum files from the server and drop the database tables of the forum also. Then install a fresh 2.0 on the same database and import the database backup copy of the 1.1.4 version, but again you must run the upgrade.php afterwords ;). i.e. upload the upgrade.php and the upgrade.sql files from the large 2.0 upgrade package to your forum directory and point your browser to the upgrade.php
alright, at one point in time I had backed up the forum database using the Admin Control Panel and Forum Maintenance. I did this to test Database Restore in the case of a hack or W/E. When trying to import the mySQL database into my my SQL it tells me it is to big to restore it. Is there any way around this?
Also, why would you drop the database tables when you could just point the fresh install of 2.0 to the SMF Database no?
I presume that you tried to import it through phpmyadmin at the cp of your host, right?
I ain''t such a big fan of restoring the backup that way as phpmyadmin has some size limit and on backups larger than 2-5 mb often times out and it spills errors as the file doesn''t get properly imported.
Anyway, have a look at this topic how to backup and restore your forum in other ways

Because it wouldn''t do to install a new 2.0 version to a database that already contains tables from a version of another series, that of the 1x1. As there is a major difference in the database between those 2 versions
