During the Meeting of the Minds (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=195275.0) (MotM) we are going to take some time out to chat with our most important members, the users of SMF.
On January 1st at 2:30pm Mountain Time (GMT -7) we will be hosting a 30 minute call in talk show on TalkShoe (http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/10358). We wanted to do something with voice instead of typing. We quickly ruled out the traditional podcast as that would just involve us talking about things we think are interesting, which would just be lame. Instead we decided that a radio talk show like format would better serve our users. After looking into various methods we feel that TalkShoe will serve our needs the best.
We advise anyone who is interested in participating to look into the TalkShoe requirements now. There are several VOIP (voice over IP) options that can be used so you don't have to make an actual phone call.
The show will be recorded so those of you that cannot make it will be able to download the show afterwards and listen to it.
This talk show will be conducted in English only. Depending on the response to this show we will look into hosting future shows including shows in a localized time and language. The show is not for support.
After the show we will be hosting a public meet and greet for those of you who can make it. The meet and greet will be at the Days Inn, 220 S Freeway Rd, Tucson AZ 85745. All are welcome to come and we'll be there for at least an hour. The end time will depend on the turnout.
We will give out exact details about the show and the meet & greet as the date draws nears.
We ask those that are planning on attending to please sign up so we'll have an idea of how many people to expect. See who is attending and sign yourself up. (http://www.simplemachines.org/motmevents.php)
I've added a page for you all to send in your ideas. Please make sure to read the ideas already submitted and if you agree with it then click on the "I agree" link. Voting for similar ideas will be a lot better then submitting a copy.
http://www.simplemachines.org/motmsuggestions.php
We hope to meet many people at this and its a good way for you to actually meet us in person.
For the talk show, there will be a chat window so if you cant get your mic connected for some reason, you can use that and other participants can relay that into the recording.
The "More Information" link is not setup correctly. ;)

It's pretty nice that your letting public participate it will spread a lot of ideas. Nice work SMF crew!
Oh and another thing. IT IS NOT FOR SUPPORT. :P
yeh folks we will not be giving support at either event, the talkshoe is so you can hear us and hear what some plans are, and for the meet and greet its so you can meet us and of course find out a little about us and plans for the future so far. The private stuff we wont tell you, and please folks ask if you want to take our pictures some of the team do not eish pictures to be taken.
Looking forward to meet some of the users!
So those who can be there, feel free to come! :D
It would be sweet if we could email you about stuff that you could talk about - for ppl who cant come/participate.
if you can tune in then you can ask on the show but im sure if you send to someone on the list then they would bring it up :)
But not me because I have a bad memory. :P
lol not for me, SMF is action packed enough for me. I dont need any fancy features - aslong as SMF kicks phpbb's a** (which its already doing with version 1) im good). I would say the opposite to phpbb but lets face it, 3 versions, it sucks and nothing new or something you guys cant handle :D
It is a good initiative. Yes. Thanks ;)

We'll be trying to figure out a good way for you all to send us ideas ahead of time.
*huge smile* :D
Sounds like a great opportunity to hear from real people. Now I just need to get talk shoe to work for me. Working on that.

What were to happen if a user called and began requesting information on how to install a SMF forum? :P
Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention, it sounds great and am looking forward to hearing it later (Chances are, I may miss the live show, but I'll be sure to get the saved copy).

Hmm,
All can I do is praying for success of this event, all of you who will attend to this great event. Good luck.

Aw - I was hoping of some crazy response, starting off with some user:
SimpleMachine Host: Now accepting calls!
*phone rings*
SimpleMachine Host: Hello, this is-
(In broken English): HOW INSTALL S and M FORUM???
SimpleMachine Host: Excuse m-
: HELP PLIS SIRS!!!
*hang up*
SimpleMachine Host: We are still accepting calls!
Are you sure that this is written properly on the motm page?
QuoteMeet the team in person and chat them up.
Shouldn't it be
QuoteMeet the team in person and chat with them.
because the former makes it sound like you are chatting them up (flirting).

Thanks for the suggestion!

Should I agree with "blank" suggestion in Current Suggestion List?
The blank suggestion has been removed. We probably should have included protection to make sure something was typed in. :)
I'm looking forward to the talk show and meet! Please feel free to include some questions/suggestions about documentation in there so I can attempt to comment on them.
Suggestion: I think it may be a good idea to link the MotM links on the "about page" for easier access.
Just to save questions later on... Due to having a class on the 2nd, I will be unable to participate in the meet and greet. I probably won't be able to participate in the talkshoe thing either because I'll be at the airport then.
The countdown has begun until the MotM Talkshoe Talk show (http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/10358).
For those inquiring minds. You can call into the show.
Phone Number: (724) 444-7444
Talkcast ID: 10358
(Note: Long distance charges may apply, check with your Long Distance provider before calling)
Remember to signup and keep those suggestions coming! (http://www.simplemachines.org/motmevents.php) We'll will take calls from this list first.
this is gonna be fun!
Yeah Iove the talkshoe idea I just hope I can make it at that time.
Don't forget that you can also use VOIP and avoid the toll call all together.
Member folks mark if you are gonna attend the talk or meet and greet
http://www.simplemachines.org/motmevents.php
We have one person who says they are attending the meet and greet, so please if you are sure then do say!!

There is something I have thought about too. If the SMF Team don't normally release news on release dates, what features are coming up, and how you go along the business end of SMF. What outline of subjects can members discuss about?
^Dear team, what did you get for Christmas?
;)

You can of course suggest we talk about those issues or why our position on those issues is what it is.

That coudl easily be done on the forums. If we remove that, then the chat to normal members is a waste of time. The idea for Team members sounds good but for everyday members it's not very good.
This site is so great. I love SMF. I cant believe I was using Vbulletin for so long. I cant wait till uploaders join my forum. Thanks everyone of the SMF crew!
HI GROUP.NEWBE HERE TO THE BLOGS.
^ For this, I will call and my first words shall be: HOW 2 INSTALL SMF?

Working on it soon...
All right. Thank you rickC. I saw it up on talkshoe but can not find it now.
Yeah, i'd like the recording too please :) Thanks!
This is such an amazing idea. It sounds like what a Rock band would do; amazing! I'm sad I couldn't make it to the talk show nor I can assist to the M&G (Since I'm in another country), but at least I'll be able to have the recording once it has been uploaded.
Thanks a lot for making this things team, and for always thinking about us, the users ;)
no link to download it yet?
We are a little ashamed of it :P It didn't go anywhere near smooth enough. I know I want to try this again as soon as we can get it organized.
First times are never perfect. Same with book publishing I must say!

Yeah..I must admit, it sucked... (its all my fault) I promise, we did do a few dry runs and had it down... We practiced a few times before the MotM's and they sounded good, but I didn't take in to account that all of us couldn't be on the same I-net connection. The hotel had 5 different wireless connections, and I thought it would be plenty. Judging by the IP, I thought it was 5 different I-nets. But they all went to the same I-net though a central hub.
Turns out the router couldn't handle all the NAT translations for that many VIOP's.... our server admin tried to tell me...
I took bandwith into account but not the cheapness of the routers...
I tried to save it by using a phone, but it was a bit too late...I apologize. We'll do it again, I promise...
Remember, blame Grudge.

Hm, what a mess. If my english is good enough, it seems that the recording is not good enough to offer it for download? Is this correct? :-[
i thought it was good. the only person that was bad was me becuase of my internet access
ill ask rick or thantos about it later
