Title: SMF: Revisited

Introducing my newest theme, and my first theme released in over a year! It is my pleasure to present to you SMF: Revisited.

I found myself looking back at all of my themes. While they were very good, they all lacked something, the SMF spirit.

That is why in this theme, along with the beautiful graphics and highly modified templates you'd expect, I decided to honor SMF by making the theme in the color scheme we've all grown to love that is present in the babylon theme and the NDT in some ways as well.

Perhaps the most unique feature to SMF: Revisited is the topic view. This was basically a tinker project of mine. All of the replies have been made "sub-ordinate" to the topic itself, separating topics, and replies entirely.

This theme also includes a flash header, along with navigation, banner, search, and login forms. However, the flash movie loads external files for the forum banner AND your slogan, which means, if you want to change the "Simple Machines" (who doesn't?) you don't even need flash!

To change these things, simply edit the provided "forum_name.psd" and "slogan.psd" and save them as "forum_name.jpg" and "slogan.jpg" and the flash header will update itself as well! Remember to save your .jpg on a high quality setting.

I hope you enjoy using this theme as much as I enjoyed making it!

Soon to come -

- Flash free version
- Fluid version of flash free version
- Optional "traditional style" topic view.

And as always, this theme validates as xhtml 1.0 Transitional and uses a standards-compliant stylesheet!

Please PM me if you find any missing buttons, images, layout problems, or anything else! Due to the drastic changes, it is possible I missed something. I almost released it yesterday - without any poll display at all! Yoink!

Tested in Opera, firefox, and IE. Differences between browsers are minimal and will not affect anything.

NOTE: This theme MUST install as "revisited" set as the theme directory!

Reccomendations:
-This theme was designed with "inline links" in mind, I reccomend you enable these over the default link tree.

-Member avatar size should not exceed 120 pixels in width, cutoff will occur if they exceed this by too much.

Enjoy!

Every page should validate..

truth be told most of it was coded for strict doctype, it's far from being invalid transitional...

great theme first of all...

one suggestion: is it possible to have attachments shown in the message it self on threads instead of the text "This post has items attached to it. Please expand the bottom window to view them"

Other than that, great theme
Title: Re: SMF: Revisited

Of course it's possible, just takes some editing.

Open up display.template, this will occure twice:

';

if (!empty($message['attachment']))
{
echo'<center><span class="smalltext"><i>',$txt['are_attachments3'],'</i></span></center>';
}

echo'

Delete it and replace it both times it with this:

<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">';
         foreach ($message['attachment'] as $attachment)
         {
            if ($attachment['is_image'])
            {
               if ($attachment['thumbnail']['has_thumb'])
                  echo '
                           <a href="', $attachment['href'], ';image" id="link_', $attachment['id'], '" onclick="', $attachment['thumbnail']['javascript'], '"><img src="', $attachment['thumbnail']['href'], '" alt="" id="thumb_', $attachment['id'], '" border="0" /></a><br />';
               else
                  echo '
                           <img src="' . $attachment['href'] . ';image" alt="" width="' . $attachment['width'] . '" height="' . $attachment['height'] . '" border="0" /><br />';
            }
            echo '
                              <a href="' . $attachment['href'] . '"><img src="' . $settings['images_url'] . '/icons/clip.gif" align="middle" alt="*" border="0" /> ' . $attachment['name'] . '</a> (', $attachment['size'], ($attachment['is_image'] ? ', ' . $attachment['real_width'] . 'x' . $attachment['real_height'] . ' - ' . $txt['attach_viewed'] : ' - ' . $txt['attach_downloaded']) . ' ' . $attachment['downloads'] . ' ' . $txt['attach_times'] . '.)<br />';
         }

         echo '
                           </div>

And that should be it.

Oh sorry, I meant theme settings inside your profile. It's a user option.

If you want to enable it by default for all members, go to:

admin cp -> current theme -> reset options.

I still don't see anything.

Just so we're clear. I'm talking about the child links on the board index.

This is how it currently is:

OHH, i thought you mean board description INSIDE the board, my mistake!

That's done in the babylon theme, you should take a look at it. It's actually simpler this way, you just need to delete that table cell and put it's contents in the same one as link...description, etc.

I was talking to alpay. What you're asking for is a feature to smf rather than the theme, so you should post in the feature requests board.

latest package: it works fine on my local computer with a clean forum installation, but when i install it to my live forums i noticed a couple of problems:

the quick links menu disappears, as mentioned before, and only private messages link is visible ( i fixed this by dublicating the file ThemeStrings.english.php and renaming it to ThemeStrings.english-utf8.php)
also some icons are located in the english icons folder, but the forum tries to find them in english-utf8 folder. same fix as above. you can still just change the forum language to plain english.

finally the problem that I couldn't fix: when i click to enter a subforum, the custom logo and the custom slogan images do not appear at all, and the "your slogan can go here" is visible (remove it from the swf its lame :P). if you go back to the main forum page, everything seems fine.

I suppose that the images are loaded within the flash file, but for some reason the flash doesnt find the images. I also noticed the pathtoimg.txt that contains "pathtoimg=Themes/babylon/images/forum_name.jpg". babylon? there is no forum_name.jpg in there. I also changed the path to match the actual forum_name.jpg but still nothing. the best solution would be for you to provide the .fla. ty:>

one question, when i click on some link in forum it always show (on a second) " your slogan can go here " ,i modified slogan.psd(jpg) and i have slogan.jpg with no text,but everytime i click something it shows on a second,after that it is ok otw there is no text.as some cache is there but i cleared all my cache ,i wonder from where the flash loads that picture ("your slogan can go here") couse it isn't there i deleted this text and replace it with blank slogan.jpg
my site : http://www.4ionline.com/forum
click on "home" button and you will se on second "your slogan...."

I have two question and one remark:
Q: I can't get forum_name.jpg to work.  "Simple Machines" is the only thing I get.  Any idea?
Q: How can I change the witdh?
C: The seach field in the banner is unreadable when typed in.

Otherwise.  Thanks!!

1 - Link to forum? Did you try accessing the image itself and refreshing, THEN viewing the flash?

2 - You cant. Flash can't expand...

i have some problems:

1. when you type in the search bar(on the banner) the text is like 2pt font very hard to read.

2. i find there is no bars within posts. i find that trouble because a user could post a big image and you can't view the rest of it sadly.

Cant wait for fluid version.
Cant i just add 100% as the width somewhere? Or will that mess it up?
My HTML & CSS is extremely limited.

I have a DEMO BOARD (http://thedemonsden.co.uk/forum/index.php?board=28.0), this is an active forum, please, if you want to join and test post only do so on the SMF: Revisited test area.

Post by: 1MileCrash on December 11, 2007, 11:41:46 AM
No, you can't just add 100% somewhere. Sure, it will be fluid if you do, but it will also look terrible..because a flash movie can't expand..

The only fluid version will be a non flash version. I don't really have a choice in that matter. But I'll have it up soon, so just keep checking back.

Yeah, i found that out by making it 1024px wide, all the layout gets messed up.
I'll wait for the non flash version, im assuming that will load faster too.
Title: Re: SMF: Revisited
Post by: 1MileCrash on December 11, 2007, 12:51:58 PM
You don't ever want to fix something at 1024. It won't be 100% for larger resolutions (which are common) and you'll only get like half the page in lower resolutions (also common) It's pretty much the worse thing you can do.

I´ve installed Spanish UTF-8.

Hey man. I'm sure your too busy for this, but I need help. I'm not quite sure how to put in the Banner or Slogan, and I was also wondering how to change the sound when you hover over the main buttons and how to change the object that follows the mouse at the top, if it's even possible. Also, how do you get mods to work, such as a Shoutbox and Shop and Arcade? I'm a real nub to all of this, so thanks for the help.

Post by: RG12345 on February 18, 2008, 02:39:32 PM
I downloaded Revisited (which I love btw) but in the notes, it says to change the forum name and slogan to just redo the images, save them as .jpg with the same name and upload into the images folder(over writing).

I have done this.. countless times.  I've redone the .psd file as well.. those show fine.  the .jpg's however do NOT change.  I can delete the file completely, know for a fact I'm reuploading the new file with the correct names and when I go into my file manager and view it.. is the same default ones that come with the site.  that might not be so bad if it didn't say 'you can use your own slogan here' or whatever it says.  I can't leave that on a public site.

Can anyone, PLEASE tell me what is wrong, how to fix?  I see that several other people had this problem but nothing really explains how to fix it.

At thsi point, I'll even pay someone who can fix it.  Help.. anyone?

the address where it is is donor offspring matches dot com/forum.  You'll see this isn't active yet but I need this complete asap because the date is coming for people tos tart spreading the word.

You are viewing the images in your computers cache, they are on your hard drive, you need to force a hard refresh, press "Ctrl & F5" while viewing your forum, this will force your browser to re-download the images to your cache, the caching system is a way to reduce server load and your bandwidth usage, it greatly improved page loads when re-visiting graphic intensive pages after the initial page load

Hi, thanks for the suggestion but that doesn't work.  I'm glad to know that is an easier way of doing it-I was clearing my footprints, trying new computers in the house etc :-)

But alas.. not that doesn't do it.  Same old slogan is still there and no forumname at all.

I uploaded new images in place of the forum_name.jpg and slogan.jpg and saved as high quality jpg's

I deleted the photoshop files that were in the directory. The new images do not show up though even after I refresh the page. Am I missing something? Also, I want to know how to access the admin page from the site. Also, when I log out, it really doesn't log me out, I still show up and the logout button is still there. I really like the theme and hope to be able to continue to use it.

The Slogan issue is tops on my list now. I replaced slogan.psd with slogan.jpg and even renamed slogan.jpg to slogan.psd in Paint Shop Pro just to see if having both of them uploaded would help. It is still showing the default slogan message and it looks very unappealing. Help please! Very nice theme. My only suggestions would be to broaden the layout a bit, it looks a little cramped, especially if people have a lot of child boards, and default font is a little small. Other than that, fantastic.

I would love to see this theme work with 2.0 RC5 if that would be possible. Thanks!
