Heya, I was wondering if there was a "By the latest" Release date for SMF 2.0. I am currently informing my mod team about the fact that the forum is going to be updating to it in time and would like to give them a time frame of when it may happen. I know, "It will be released when it is released." That doesn't help my problem in the least. If you can tell me it would be appreciated, even by PM if you don't want others to know. YOU CAN FREAKING BAN ME IF I TELL ANYBODY! The forum i am running is a MASSIVE community so it would be a good thing to know.

The point isn't that it's a secret..the point is that THERE IS NO release date. The developers don't know, the support staff doesn't know, god doesn't know either. It's released when the developers feel it is ready, which no one can predict, there is no "timeline"

Would it make sense to assign a date when its still under development and is in the process of fixing many bugs?
No, but all I was asking for was a "At the latest" date. I mean, none of us know. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't going to be like...2 years from now.

Yeah probaly not 2 years from now considering there is a beta now... haha
But maybe 4 or 5 :P :P :P
To get SMF 2.0 sooner, you could always become a charter member :).
there is no release date, theres no secret to tell. in every topic in the team boards (that i can see) not a single one of them contains that information ;)
We don't know. When the devs feel it is ready for release, then we will let everyone know :)

Even though there isn't a firm release date, shouldn't there be a progress notification or something?
Here's the deal: spending 10 - 20 hours working on your forum theme then having to do it all over again because a new version is released a few days later is a major pain in the butt!
Right now, there's some stuff I'd like to do to my forum. But I can't because the next version of SMF could be coming out tomorrow or next June. Nobody has a clue.
i can say that, 100000000% sure here, its not coming out tomorrow :P.
Its pretty safe to say that, for now, you're safe to do your modifications without worrying about it coming out publically in the next month or two. Even still, we will still be supporting 1.1 (just as we do 1.0). so security updates and such will still happen on 1.1. You won't be pushed out of date that way ;)

The thing is that progress can be stalled because of some changes that need to be made, or might even go backwards if the devs need to re-architect something. Development isn't always a linear process.

As BlackMage said, we will support 1.1 even after 2.0 is released. Heck, we'll probably still support 1.0 too. Our
unofficial stance is that we will support all the different versions with security fixes until such time as we are unable to (bug caused by fundamental architecture design, etc).

All you get, what I see in beta 1.1, is some more administration options and a revised admin panel introducing cascaded menus. Not sure if things are getting more exciting for the final release? :-\
From what I've seen in the code of SMF 2.0 beta 1.1 that is not yet active and from what has been hinted to, I think SMF 2.0 beta 1 (1.1) will be seen as more SMF 1.5.
I think we will have to wait till beta 2 to get a proper SMF 2.0 ;)
