Is It possible to change the member rank image from a star to something else in the admin CP?

Yes, just find the star.gif in ThemeFolder/images/ and either replace them, or upload new images and insert the path to theme in the Member Groups section.
Not sure why you posted this in Feature Requests though ;)
Because you're using a hosted board, you won't be able to upload new images. You should ask on the smfforfree support board if someone can upload the images for you.
