Any plans for allowing embedded videos from youtube etc. ?
I doubt it would be added into Core functionality.

simplemachines is close to surpassing vbullentin imho ... embedded video and other such features will take it to the top :)
I think most users would see it as bloat in the core.
Thats why we have mods.
Users who want extra functionality can have it.
video embedding is essential for a world class forum imho :)
But you can have it.
Like the arcade.
You just have to install it as a plugin.

Are adding pictures via uploads or links part of a mod ?
Why then are videos so different ? Is simplemachines looking to the future or struck in the past like the others ? (I mean no disrespect I think the folks behind this project have done a fantastic job) I sincerely think though that it should be part of the core just like pictures are. O:)
You can attach images or use img tags. You could also upload videos if the admin allowed it.
However pictures are not the same as videos. There is no standard video player that would work across all platforms and browsers. If we were to include video support (and it isn't planned!) it would probably be for generic videos rather than having to depend on one service (such as youtube).
