I am new to htaccess.

In your cPanel you should be able to setup a permanent (www) redirects from that folder to your root folder.

that\'s not what he needs, and that wont help.
he needs to write some redirect rules that will take requests to his OLD urls, and map them to his NEW urls (so that previously bookmarked and googled links will still works)
then he has to issue an HTTP header \"MOVED PERMANENTLY\"
I already change my forum to the root. I use .htaccess redirect to redirect all the old URL to the new one and it work pretty good.
i use this: Redirect /forum http://compufo.totalh.com
