Otsikko: looking for something like a catalog
Kirjoitti: seymoor - joulukuu 19, 2007, 05:45:21 IP
Well this is not directly releated to smf but I'm looking for a simple solution to make a so called strainbase.

users would add a strain through a simple form with fields like name, company, etc with ability to add pictures.

if it could be automaticly tagged for the field names for easy search purposes that would be great.

I tried joomla but its way to complicated for me and the task as well, so i was wondering if anyone knows a simple solution for this task.

thanks for your answer

I plan on doing something similar, but instead of a strainbase, it's for lesson plans.  My only solution at the moment is to write-up the php myself, place it in my custom template, and change the subs file so that the menu reflects the option.

I am debating with myself on how to go about it, since I could make it easier on myself and just use a board, and a custom.php page that would parse information, and do the task of showing posts as a catalogue, and posting them with the right delimiters.

Oh developers of SMF, any chance you may be up to the task of adding an abstracted "catalogue" feature?  It would be a page that contains user submissions, just like in the boards, but with customizable input fields (or drop down lists, etc), and the option to list the content according to input fields.

Specific example:  users can log on and upload a lesson plan, input a title, choose a audience target and category from a drop down list, (etc...), and have the posts content displayed by category.

In case there is anyone so lame as me and found himself in the same position, maybe this can help: http://oscommerce.com/ (http://oscommerce.com/)

It's open source, customisable, and do everything what I want from a simple "product catalog".

It's a webshop engine, and the addons or contributions are not so noob friendly than SMF's for example, but it's manageable.
