Title: Custom Profile Fields in 2.0 - what is with the "custom profile fields mod"?
Post by: Chriss Cohn on January 15, 2008, 11:51:23 AM
Situation:
Own a Forum of 1.1.x branch and have, lets say, 50.000 users.
Nearly all of that users have specified custom profile fields through the popular "custom profile fields MOD" by Winrules.

So what will be happen when i upgrade to 2.0 ??? All users need to specify the stuff like "location" "joined xx.xx.xxx" again?

I hope not and somebody will make a script which converts all custom profile fields from the MOD to working with the 2.0 custom profile fields...

Regards, Christian

It depends on how both are stored -- IIRC winrules' mod stores the profile fields in the themes table, so if 2.0 does the same, they may still be intact BUT i cannot guarantee this.  This is a good question that probably should be addressed though.

There's two options. Either a converter script is written, or the custom profile field mod is updated to work with 2.0. Then you would just continue to use the mod and leave the built-in custom profile fields alone.

that is a work around solution though and not a true solution to the issue especially since the new way of doing offers more flexibility and options
