It would be wonderful if SMF allowed the EASY use of favicons. I noticed a MOD that allows you to add them, but it says it's only for certain themes. I also searched and found this thread ( http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=56085.0) , but I tried putting a favicon.ico at the root of my forums, and nothing happened, so I'm guessing that either there is more to it than that, or the advice doesn't work.
Any thoughts on a possible future admin setting for favicons?
Joe
You may need to clear your cache before seeing the new favicon.
Although you can modify the html to support favicons it shouldn't really be necessary. I don't think this site has any code specifying the favicon.
On FFx it will attempt to load a favicon for all sites but IE seems to only do it some of the time.
Check out the wiki page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon
You only need to add two lines to your index.template.php theme file.
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://example.com/favicon.ico" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon">
<link rel="icon" href="http://example.com/favicon.ico" type="image/vnd.microsoft.icon">
Usually browsers just detect the favicon... isnt really needed most of the time...
Well clear or delete your cache.
Refresh the page and it should be there. If your using IE (internet explorer) you will need to add your site to your bookmarks.
Hope this works out for you :)
