Otsikko: allow editing posts only if there haven't been replies
Kirjoitti: neylitalo - tammikuu 16, 2008, 02:56:20 IP
At PHP Freaks, we've had problems with people editing posts that we don't want edited for a few reasons - most notably, to make sure that we don't lose content, and to preserve the conversation's continuity. The time limit on editing posts is good, but it doesn't solve the problem completely.

However, it would solve the problem if there were a setting to allow people to edit their posts only if there have been no replies to it. (By our reckoning, If there haven't been replies, it probably wasn't valuable content, and there's no subsequent conversation to keep continuous.)

Hi neylitalo, welcome to SMF :)

Funny how you should mention this as I was thinking about something similar awhile ago but never got around to posting it. Indeed it makes a lot of sense and would be something I would also like to see in SMF core.

Thanks for the welcome. :)

One other note: I'd be glad to write a patch, if I knew where to look - unfortunately, I only have experience with using SMF, and none with hacking it. And I'm not sure what the devs' policy on patches is, so it's possible that it wouldn't be of much use to them in their SCM copies.
