I am interested if somebody can create a mod that will allow any member (from a determined membergroup) to create & manage his own membergroup(s) with board(s) without the ability to disturb other's (i.e. like administrator but with limited access).
This limited access means that the board may be created & published for his group members / public ONLY under the assigned category(ies) created earlier by the administrator (or those who are allowed to, of course!).
Currently there are manage boards & categories (under Admin -> Permission -> Forum administration) and manage & assign membergroups (under Admin -> Permission -> Member administration) but to allow these powers to certain membergroups other then administrator is too dangerous. Even Global Moderator is not given that powers in default.
It is almost similar to GroupJive but this is specifically for SMF. But it may be possible that this mod can be further developed to be integrated with Mambo through Orstio's bridge (& coming soon CB Plugins), if need be. Or may be with Bloc's TinyPortal. Hopefully it is just for free.
As the owner he is responsible to manage the board of his membergroup(s) which I believe is more on promoting his contents rather then the whole forum but it will drive people into the forum.
And may be to recognize his efforts to promote the forum as a whole, just may be, he should be allowed to put his own ads besides the Forum Owner or share some percentage of the revenues. This will surely encourage more participation in the forum.
Well, I am not an expert but rather a newbie. IMHO this should be great for all SMF users.
2.0 has membergroup moderators, which allows them to add and remove members in that membergroup, but permissions for the membergroup are still assigned by the administrator I believe.
That is great. But I am suggesting that this mod may allow such a group (in its primary capacity) like you said to create another membergroup(s) with own board(s). To control this from being abuse an option may be put so that the administrator approval shall be required if such a member from such a group want to create more that one membergroup.
I guess this might involve level of control of more then two, changing the main smf code and thus, might not be a good idea after all. Just sharing my thought anyway.
