Hola,
Our SMF forums website was vandalized by a spammer whom we call FOOTBALLYEARS.NET Spammer around January 21. I found three posts mentioning the name of footballyears.net here at SMF forums. footballyears.net is a common username he uses to create an account. He mainly advertises the websites of footballyears.net and heightgrowthshoes.com. You can find a few hundred more victims by asking Google about footballyears.net heightgrowthshoes.com.
If you are a victim of FOOTBALLYEARS.NET Spammer's vandalism, let's stop this guy for good by destroying the sponsoring websites of his operation. The hosting companies of footballyears.net and heightgrowthshoes.com are Dallas-based Host Gator and UK-based Fasthosts, respectively. I already filed a complaint at both web hosting companies. It's been about 36 hours, I think. So far, I've been ignored. A few hundred more complaints will hopefully move these web hosting companies and leave them no choice but to shut down the websites sponsoring spam vandalism.
Just ban his hostname with a while card
This is a common spammer but theres no need to spam back on his board. Nor anything SMF can do.

spam back?
Just sit back and play defense, huh? That's why those spam-sponsoring websites are still there.

No, that isn't why. The spam industry is around because their practices accomplish what they want. Stock pump-and-dump e-mail scams continue because they are very effective. Likewise with spam for drugs, software, etc. The real solution is to change the economics so they can't make a profit from their methods. Spamming is cheap, especially with botnets now. Simply flooding the site will not do much at all.
If the site being spammed has advertising on it, contact the advertising network and let them know about this person's tactics. That could pull some revenue away.
Fight back, but in a way that will hurt them and still be legal. Getting sources of revenue taken away will certainly do that.
Lainaacontact the advertising network ...
You mean, contact Canadian Pharmacy? BookMaker? They hire affiliates to increases sales. They are also to blame.
There is nothing illegal about having sponsoring websites shut down. They will have to find new hosts.
He got to my boards as well and he keeps coming back, I see him often online! That's pretty timetaking for a spammer ;D Although he didn't post a thing at my boards I also gave him a ban, cause I also don't want any spam on my boards!
Don't play defense. Complain to Host Gator and FastHost. Or he will keep coming back. By the way, FastHost has confirmed to me that the webmaster of heightgrowthshoes.com is their client.
What was his IP address? 79.176.139.248? If it's not, that means FOOTBALLYEARS.NET Spammer anonymizes his IP address.
He registered on my boards with ip *removed*
I removed the IP address.
even though this individual is involved in less than honorable activities, posting ip's and such is not a good idea.

I see. I didn't think about that. Thanks for a reminder. It's just that I wanted to know if he uses the same IP address or anonymizes it.
The account was registered on Multi Talk 2 twice. Both times IP banned, Username banned and all posts removed. Pretty much the most one can do really.

Ok, your right about that :P
Not registered on my board, he did email though asking for a link, like most requests, it was ignored.
We gopt spammed by him last week as well
Host of footballyears.net Gator Host said yesterday that they sent a warning to the domain owner. As for heightgrowthshoes.com, Fasthosts said that they condone spam vandalism, allowing their clients to hire career spammers to advertise their websites.
Well thats something on Hostgators part.

Okay, that's a nice spirit, chrishicks. How we ended up finding those web hosting companies and how to contact them are shown here (http://seo.mhvt.net/blog/?p=229). If you contact Gator, hopefully, they will shut down footballyears.net.
I got him the other day. I'm always checking my forum throughout the day and seen that someone with a website in their name joined. I had no idea he was a big spammer at the time, but I IP banned him anyway.
FOOTBALLYEARS.NET Spammer returned to our website yesterday to post a spam comment again. After reporting the incident to its web host, Host Gator suspended the website of footballyears.net. If there are other victims out there, this is your best chance to expel this spam website from the net. Report your incident to Host Gator by opening a ticket if you can. Of course, the site owner will find a different host, I suppose.
