Hi, I am intend to install this Forum for the first time on my site which is powered by Joomla.

Can I somehow import the existing memberlist to this forum so that people do not need to re-register a new username?

no.

There is no currently supported bridge that links joomla and SMF users/logins

Kindred, maybe he wants a stand alone forum; there is no legal issue with that. An Joomla-SMF converter could do that...

to the best of my knowledge, there is no joomla -> SMF converter either.
