Here's my current setup (www.mixtogether.org):
- Joomla 1.0.12
- SMF 1.1 RC3
- Orstio's bridge
Some members were registered in Joomla side, most registered in the Bridge.
Problem:
I want to upgrade to Joomla 1.5
I also want forum software that is upgradable as time goes on.
- Am I going to have to abandon the Bridge?
- Does that also mean that all the members registered in the bridge are stuck there, because they are saved in the SMF database and not the Joomla Database?
The end happened last July: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=184559.0
You've had seven months to weigh your options and choose what you want to do.

Yes.

The bridge registers the users into both the SMF and Joomla databases simultaneously. So your users should be in both SMF and Joomla.
I've had more important things to do with my site than worry about this till recently.
My thought is to eliminate memberships from the Joomla website (there's nothing extra for members there anyway) and continue to run the forum as a standalone.
So I would de-activate the bridge, and simply leave the forum as it is?
Would I then be able to upgrade the forum and Joomla independent of each other?
Thanks

Hey I'm back. Thanks for your help so far.
OK, so I have un-published the bridge login module, but not deleted it from the back end.
So now nobody is able to register from the front of the site, but
(a) if you hit 'register' from the SMF forum, you still get the form as if it is from the website.
I assume that if I try to migrate the Joomla site to 1.5, that (a) will stop working- is that correct?
unpublishing the login module will not unpublish the BRIDGE (which is a component)
The only way to remove the bridge is to delete the component(s), (and be sure to remoVe the module(s) and the mambot(s) too)

... one thing to always remember is if there is a need, there will be a solution :-)
Seems someone found a way to play nice with the lawyers. Have not tried it so have no idea how it works
