I am sorry to bother you guys. I know I saw this answered somewhere but I can't seem to find the answer now that I am ready to actually do it
How do I change the image used as the logo on a template (theme)?
I am using the Aero79 theme and specifically the terra97 color version. I need to change the logo. I found it in the image file of course but I can't seem to change that file. When I delete that file and upload one of my own, of the same size, and rename my file to have the same name of the original file...I get that little red x in a box.
So surely I am not doing something right
Can someone help me with this please? O:)

Hi Sherpa, I did a search of the forum and it pulled up a huge coded page that merely highlighted in yellow everywhere there was the word "logo" or "change"
And I am sorry,It's not the Simple Machine logo I need to change. I need to change the theme logo for that particular theme

That's what I need to change.
right click on the image and look at properties...
/forum2/Themes/Aero79_smf11final/images/img_terra/logo.gif
replace that file with one of your own.

I did that Kindred and it won't show up on the forum. I can't figure this out. Changing logos is easy to do. But not this one. When I upload my own image which is a gif file, and rename it to logo.gif (after removing the theme's default image of course) the file in the directory appears to be a text file and not an image file (in the directory) and I get the little red x in a box on the site itself. However in the directory if I open the file, even with it showing itself as a text file, I can see the image perfectly. It just won't load on the actual forum.
I'll switch it and then you will see the red x

It exists, it just won't show up on the forum

that is the image I have in the directory. I don't know why the %20 is showing up in the url. If that is the problem how do I change it?
well I just uploaded the orignal logo.gif
until I can figure this out I am stuck with it :(
%20 is the html encoded value for a space.
So, it looks to me as if your file is actually named "logo.gif " NOT "logo.gif"
because, as I said,
the file: "http://brokenarrowspeacepipe.com/forum2/Themes/Aero79_smf11final/images/img_terra/logo.gif" was not accessible in a web browser, which means it does not exist with that file name.

I am sorry Kindred but I don't see the difference in the two file names you just gave me.
I guess I will just find another theme. Which is sad cause that theme is perfect for what my intentions are

The difference is the space after the 'f' in 'logo.gif ' in the first example, and the lack of space in the second,(correct), example.
EDIT: You now seem to have it named correctly, as it can now be opened in a browser! Click on your link above with the %20, ie space character, then click on Kindreds link, without the %20 and you will see the result! That one little space makes all the difference!!
Thanks Zoot. I have had to switch from that theme. There were other issues that showed up with images not appearing. The new reply images that should have shown up that are part of the theme, did not show up at all.
So I will just look through all the themes and see if another one will do what I wanted it to do.
It's a shame though cause I really liked that one

and the weird thing is that I removed my image file from the directory completely so I have no clue how Kindred is linked to it

I'm such a ditz. I found out why I was having trouble with that theme
It is not compatibile with version 1.1.4
Is there any way to find out if that theme will be updated to be compatible with version 1.1.4?
There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to use that theme, its just a matter of sorting out your paths etc.
Your logo.gif file is still there, Kindreds link is to your gif file on your host! ;)

I know Zoot but I swear to you, the image is no longer in that directory at all LOL
I sent a message to Bloc who made that theme according to the theme info to see if it could be updated to work with my version. Like I said, there were other images not showing up as well.
I am not really new at this. I did have a php forum for 3 years and worked alot in modifying alot of stuff on it. I had it just how I wanted it but then last week the forum crashed when I was adding the recommended updates. I had saved my database and when I went to restore it, it had only saved part of it. I never did like php much anyway and got more than 100 spammers a day hitting it. It was more headaches than anything else.
I love Simple Machines though and hope that Bloc can help me get his theme to be compatible with my version

I finally got all of this figured out and the theme is working perfectly
it was my errors that was causing the problem O:)
