Otsikko: Allow users to delete posts with their username in it
Kirjoitti: wehican - helmikuu 29, 2008, 07:00:07 IP
Is there a mod that will allow a user to delete posts they think are offensive to them if that post has their username in it?

Something that when they read a post while logged in and their username is used in that post, a code is embedded into their username that will allow them to delete just that post.  Maybe even incorporated into the search feature.

I am NOT a programmer.  I was wondering if something like that was available, which would take a load off me moderating a bunch of idiots.

As far as I know there is no such functionallity or mod.
But they can use the "report to moderator" link to report that post to a mod. And the moderator can then delete it for them.

that's an interesting idea but apparently no mods do that atm but I would sure look forward for someone to make it

good luck

And what happens if there username is something generic.

Especially on theme-related forums, alot of usernames can be relevant.
Eg a user called "WWE" on a wrestling forum.

IMO the report feature is best.
That way admins/moderators can decide what is offensive, not what each user thinks is offensive.
(otherwise you're going for lowest possible denominator of what is offensive)

I posted that same question in the phpbb forums and immdediately got hot by trolls.

Here there are intelligent and mature responses.  That's nice.

Such a feature would be good in many instances because of less exposure time to search engines.

Some chat rooms like you find on newspaper web sites get real nasty.  Some require people to use their real names, and there are a few that actually do.  I have seen many instances where people search the net looking for dirt for a poster with a real or unusual username, or use search results out of context.  You know what I am talking about.

Would take a big load off the moderators, who can be very arbitrary themselves.  No one should mention a poster's name when flaming them, anyhow.  Let the aggrieved poster delete it if they don't like it.  The others get the hint.

I would be a good feature.

Ignore user mod?
