Title: SMF 1.1.4 and SMF 2.0 / Side by Side and Clean Uninstallation?
Post by: [кѕ]ваηε-σ on March 18, 2008, 07:03:01 AM
I know that once someone upgrades from version SMF 1.1.x to SMF 2.0 that it is not possible to downgrade.

But say I install SMF 2.0 as a different forum, (i.e. with different database suffixes, and webaddress) is it possible to have the two forum versions running side by side at the same time?

If so, is it possible to do an full uninstallation of SMF 2.0 without bothering the previous SMF 1.1.x forum?

The reason I ask is because I'm on limited disk space, and while I'd like to tryout 2.0 to see it features and help report bugs; I need to know if there is an escape route that will allow me to remove SMF 2.0 without bothering my other forum which would be running 1.1.x

If they use different files and a different database (or at least a different prefix) then they're independent and whatever you do to one won't impact the other.

If its only you wanting to test it out,
then to save your host space and all the uploading time etc

Get Xampp or Wamp and test SMF 2.0 out on your localhost ;)

Some great advice from karlbenson.  I saw a similar response of his and downloaded xampplite.  I installed it as well as my 1.1.4 SMF on a 2GB memory stick.  Restored a backup of the SQL database and then upgraded to SMF 2.0 Beta 3 and it is running great on my localhost.

Sure a neat way to test things out.  :)
