Title: Custom Profile Fields
Post by: spaZzZilla on March 19, 2008, 09:51:56 AM
I have another one...I hope this is the right place for these questions....In the profile fields, can you change the order of your custom fields from the ACP? If not, what is the best way to go about doing that?

Thanks :)

Currently there is no way to change the order of the custom fields - you will simply have to define them in the order that you want them to appear in.

I'm finding the "Description:" field for the custom added fields is too restricting.  For starters, it is limited to just 255 characters.  Equally a problem, it does not allow HTML markup to be used.

The mod for 1.x.x had neither restriction, and I feel that's the way it should be in 2.0.  I find this a vitally important issue that needs to be resolved.

Here is a good real life example of why I need it from my board.  The first shot is running on 1.1.4 using the custom field mod; the second shot is running on 2.0 Beta 3 using the native custom field feature.

i believe you can use bbcode such as [red], which is a lot shorter than the html for it as well :)

ie Red

[red]Red[/red]

Actually you can't I just tested.

I don't think html should be supported, but bbcode should.

Why shouldn't HTML be supported?  Only the admins have access to change the description of those fields.  HTML is allowed in the description fields for the boards, so it wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary.

Because if you screw it up, you'd break the admin section.
Personally I'd also prefer bbcode to html for board descriptions for the same reason.

Its just easier and safer for everyone to just use bbcode, with little downside.

and if worse comes to worse theres always [html]

Karl:  i'm not sure if it'd get done or not with the feature lock.  I'll leave it at your discretion whether you want to put it in the bug tracker or not

So there's no way to format any of the board descriptions?

Another question: how hard would it be to include an option where only the profile owner and admin can see the profile section and no other members?.  Kind of like  "Member Notepad" (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=788).

Member Notepad, actually, shouldn't be that difficult to port over. I'd ask the mod author if they'd be willing.

You can actually use HTML in board descriptions to format the appearance.
