Title: GPL, Linux, and proprietary applications
Post by: scottws on March 20, 2008, 01:08:00 AM
If the FSF is saying that bridging SMF and Joomla is a violation of Joomla's GPL licence, how in the world are the numerous proprietary, non GPL-ed Linux applications not a violation of the GPL?

at this point, it does not matter what any other GPL product does or allows.  We have reviewed the situation and the decision has been made.

Well, you have the fact that most of the major system libraries those applications need - such as glibc and glib - are under the LGPL, which allows this. Additionally, other libraries like Qt have the option for a commercial license. That makes it an entirely different situation than our bridge.

In addition, I echo the comments of Kindred.
