Sorry if i'm posting this in a wrong area of the forum, if it's wrong please feel free to move it where it should be.
Anyone know of any program or script, or both, which i can have on my pc, checks for my current IP every hour or so and could post in a forum my latest ip ?
I have a gaming site, with SMF Forum and i would like to keep the Server's IP posted, since verizon only has non-static IPs i need to fix it every now and then, but if there's anything that can help me, it would be great.
Thanks in advance for any replies !
Well what you could do is have a script on your site that uses the createpost function to post the IP of the reffer into the forum.
Then if you are a windows pc you can get wget and write a batch file with wget to call your remote script. And use window schedule tasks to call it every hour.

Hey,
Actually, for about an additional $10/m you can have a static IP with your connection. Just a thought.

Why not get dyndns or a similar service and point people at the DNS name?

Ok, here's the thing, i found out a program that gets my IP and emails me my IP every 10 mins (if it changes)
Is there a way that i could make the board POST what's inside an Email sent to an email address ? i could use the HOST's email address and have the program send the email there.
Enlighten me.
Why not use dyndns to get a DNS name, then use the PHP function gethostbyname to display the resulting IP on a page?

Cause i have no idea how, lol, seriously though, i thought of the dns, i have an account but i have no idea on how to set it up that way, if you could help me a while more and tell me how to do it would be great ^^
I got the DynDNS account opened, i make a dynamic dns (right ?) then what ?
Sorry to ask so much, i know my HTML and Java, from when i was back in the university, but php ? i have barely no knowledge of it.
Then follow the instructions for setting up the client on your PC.
Then add a call to do something like
echo gethostbyname('your.entry.dyndns.whatever');
somewhere in the template files.
I'll see if i can get that working, does it matter where in the template that goes or just anywhere ? (top or bottom)
Where you want the IP to show up, but not inside of 's.
For example:
echo '<p>Current Server IP: ', gethostbyname('your.entry.dyndns.whatever'), '</p>';

Inside of what ?
Also, i made the dyn dns and where's the application ?
I see this:
# Update Client Configurator - generate configuration files for ddclient or inadyn update clients
# DNS Query Tool - perform DNS queries from DynDNS servers to debug DNS issues.
Is it any of em ?
I also found an app called "inadyn"
', as in single quotes.
echo 'gethostbyname('your.entry.dyndns.whatever');' will throw errors.

Works !!!
This is great, SO MANY MANY Thanks to everyone in this forum.
Wish the font was a lil bigger but i'll figure that out now, lol. Thanks again !
Also, any way to use this function inside a post ? like making a post called Current Server Address and inside the post there would be the IP ? It looks like the site template's shadow goes out of area when i add it to the top.
You Could, for example, find the point where the news is injected, and put it to the left of News:, if you wanted, adjusting the HTML portion there. That would probably make it easier on you.
Will try.
