Otsikko: New Board Permissions
Kirjoitti: Rainy City - maaliskuu 25, 2008, 08:40:06 IP
I have set up two new forums within an existing board.  All the permissions appear to be exactly the same as in the other public forums, yet members do not see the "reply" tab in the posts.

The only reason there are posts there in the first place is because they have been transferred from other areas.

What do I do to rectify this problem?

Thanks (again)

RC.

check that the boards are set as normal and not:

Normal

in Admin > boards

Thanks Perplexed.

When I go to Boards > Admin, there is no option anywhere within this area to change these.

The last Admin also had these problems and I do not know how he fixed them  Sadly, he is no longer available to contact.

I can modify the permissions within this area but, again, there are no options to change the settings you mention.  I am baffled.

You probably have enabled 'advanced board permissions' and have some of your boards using local permissions.  When you do this, that option disappears.

Have a look at Admin > boards list of boards, and where you see the permissions link, are some of them in italics and some of them not?

The only boards in Italics are the Mod/Admin boards.  I have made sure everything is the same in the new boards as in the existing, fully functional boards.  I just don't get it.

Aha - I just changed did it.  I went into Admin > Permissions then "Modify" the appropriate membergroups and "Post replies to topics" was not checked.  Funny because I looked here several times last night and these options were checked.  This gets weirder.

Anyway, it's sorted now.  Any other damage I have done will be revealed shortly.   ;)

Thanks again.

no problem, glad you worked it out.  I was going to say that but that seemed too obvious lol

It has all become clear now.

The forum is quite complex in some ways and I suppose it has to be due to the nature of the forum., so the various membergroups and permissions are complicated too.  There were many different sets of permissions to activate and set up which is what caused my confusion.  Nothing much relies on "global" permissions.  A bit of a nightmare!   :(

yeah some forums do have quite complicated set ups, but the software allows you to do that so that's a good thing if you need it :)

It really depends what you need and you might want to spend some time looking at the set up in detail to see if maybe you can't simplify it a little.  It could be that it is unnessarily complicated in some areas.

it is designed in some ways to be simple for your basic forum needs, but has the ability to have the complexity that some need, as well.

Its a give-and-take kind of thing

Yes, it's an excellent system.  So versatile.  I love it to bits!

:) my forums started off very basic in the beginning but have become more and more customised as the years have gone by.  I hope you enjoy figuring it all out to suit your needs
