I searched the forum but didn't find anything about this. I am running SMF within Joomla (bridged) and I've had this problem occur twice now. For some reason, I'll post to a thread and that thread will no longer come up for anyone, including me. It just displays a blank page, no errors or anything. That will happen to every thread I post in until I go to my Joomla profile (CB) change my avatar to something else, save my profile, then change the avatar back to what it was and save again. Any threads I post in from that point on will be ok, but the ones that were previouosly screwed up are still screwed up. The solution is to go into the database (smf_messages) and delete my posts in that thread.
Anyone seen this before?
Someone should probably move this to the joomla board. Unless your using the joomlahacks bridge then you will need to post support there for your bridge. I personally have not seen anything like that but I have only ever used joomla unbridged or with orstio's bridge.

I assume it doesn't matter what avatar you are using? Will the problem return again later on?
Did you try running SMF alone (without the bridge)?
Just FYI about the Joomla-SMF bridge. It is not longer updated and will probably cause problems in more recent versions of SMF/Joomla.
I take it you are using the joomlahacks integration with some sort of CB plugin?
