Ok, I just checked the docs, and seems they're not available for 2.0 right now - and I don't have my 2.0 board at hand atm so I'll have to get back to you later, if someone else doesn't make it here faster.

Permission profiles are just that. They are a profile of permissions that you can apply to boards.
This makes it easier when you are have a lot of boards that need the same local permissions. You just change the permission profile and it affects all boards that use it.

Yup.
Boards that dont have a profile set will use 'default', which is the overall global permission set that is defined in admin > permissions
Otherwise it will use the profile you specify.
It is a change over what was in 1.1 though, so it is understanding to be confused :)

Wokay could i put forward a question. If i need to stop a member group from viewing some boards, how do i set that group up. Tried unchecking the Visible Boards: [ Show boards ] section but still the boards are visible. I have post count groups active too. Another question lol whats the best way to manage permissions for post count based groups ?

board viewing permissions are inherited from other groups as well. Make sure they are not in a group that can see that board.
Any group they are in they inherited its access and permissions.
right.... I have a board that has child board, set up for "blogging"
In each of those child boards, there is one moderator.
I have set a permissions profile that basically allows only moderators (or admins) to post a NEW message, but anyone can RESPOND to a message.
Now, when I create a new blog board, I just assign that profile and all the rest is taken care of without having to specify permissions each time.
Great ... Thanks Mates ( SleePy, metallica & Kindred ). I think i am getting this now, one last question. Is it possible to totally remove the post count based groups and have the regular groups post based, hope you all get what i am saying.

you must always have at leats one post-count based group. (the newbie group must be present, although you can rename it)
you must have the moderators group... even though it's not technically a groiup.
You SHOULD have a global moderators group
you can add new post-count based groups.... or more regular (non-post count based) groups.
Ok great so that means i can have the following groups.
1 ... newbie ---- post count based ( 0 to 10 post )
2 ... member ---- post count based ( 11 post onwards )
3 ... moderator
4 ... Global mod
5 ... admin
and a couple of them that are not post count based. Right ?

you can enable the ability to have permission sets for post-count based groups, which will make the post groups more like regular groups but still post count based.
Otherwise, no, you can't do regular membergroups based on posts.
Admin > Permissions > Settings > Enable permissions for post count based groups
