I feel like I should know this and I'm probably being a bit of a muppet (I have tried searching these forums). But, how do I hide the 'Key Stat's panel in the SMF template;

Or, if that's not possible, can I at least hide the number of members?

You will goto Admin => Current Theme\'s Settings => off this option => 'Show latest member on board index'
-to remove the whole stats box .. find and delete in index.template.php :

Interestingly this is already unchecked, but the latest member still shows up. Is this a bug???

Seems like a lot of grey not doing much then...
Another piece of advice: First duplicate the default theme, rename it and then change the code from within the admin center. So in case you mess up you still have a working default theme (that's the reason the default theme is not editable).

i unchecked it as well, and it still shows the latest member.
i at least figured out how to make it stop listing non activated members.
Strange, still doesn't work on my forums under version 1.0.2. Very odd. I have to edit it out by hand in index.template.php
