Does anyone know when the 2.0 beta become the standard, ie out of beta stage? I'm a newbie, and feel I'd be better off waiting for others more experienced to work out the bugs. I couldn't find this on a search, but it appears the beta 2.0 has been there since April of last year.
thanks!
Eric
2.0 was first revealed april of last year, the third beta (first public beta) was released in mid march. Currently there is no timeline for 2.0 stable.
release data is very important! initial date in Taurus is good (Venus get paid subscriptions feature), but releasing in november is wrong ang non harmonic variation. best way - september (earth, mercury) or oktober (air, venus)
@Grand Duke - I can't understand a thing you just said..
And SMF Devs never set timelines because it just pressurizes them causing more problems(Thats what I believe).
Dragooon, can't understand of you :(
u don't want hear anything about release day - close auricles :)
if you have moderator permissions - announse about banning rules from talking this subject
but now i have permission talking about all and anywere.
simple it is my opinion about good date, no more. from astro point of view
I am not attacking something, I just cannot understand what you're trying to say lol.
Dragooon, it is for advanced developers ;)
dragoon...
he's babbling astology....
Duke...
the release date is when the product is ready, regardless of astrological signs.
Kindred, u babel astrolog hahaha, not need your support for this question
it didn't need your's either...
[кѕ]ваηε-σ, don't make nervous, be happy with 1.1.4 :)

I know that, I want to know what he's babbling :P
based on his interpretation of the astrological stuff, he's saying that a release in September or October would be best, because of the elements and associations.
Thanks :)

I believe there is your answer. Essentially when it reaches its public release as "released final" you know all the hard work, bug testing, security reviews etc have been completed for that product.
just tried phpBB 3 because I was curious, but i don't like it a bit, now i have to waiiiiit.
I wanna transfer a huge smf 1.1.4 board, I better wait till RC at least..
A serious question that merits a serious answer which noone is prepared to give.
I administer a vBulletin forum that is several versions out of date. I would like to change to SMF but would need the features of release 2.
So, if no timescale can be given, I will have to stick with vBulletin and pay for a new licence. I cannot wait for ever.
If you need it so badly, switch to the beta version. And SMF is free so no timelines will be set, the team members are volunteers.
I understand and share the concern of many but I must agree with the SMF team that a deadline is counter productive and as owner of several big boards I'd rather see a stable but delayed release than a release on-time that has shortcomings.
Keep up the great work!
Exactly.

I thought we were strongly advised not to use the beta version on a production forum and support is weighted towards version 1.x.
I appreciate that the team are volunteers and the product is free. And it is a very good product. That is why I would like to use it.
Surely someone must have some idea. Are we talking about less than 3 months, 6 months? Or is it over a year away?
The unofficial goal is by the end of the year. Rest assured that there are several large production boards making use of 2.0 at this very moment, and you need not fear a lack of support. The precautionary warning was for those who would be uncomfortable dealing with potential bugs or unpolished features that 2.0 still has.

If you can't stand odd bugs (and there are odd bugs), don't use the beta. The warning is there because there is still the potential for a big bug to pop up and cause things to not work.
If you don't mind battling the occasional bug and are coding-minded and can follow general editing instructions (if you can manually install a mod), then the beta might be okay for you. If you, rather, are risk-averse and don't want to touch anything but the front controls, don't use the beta.
We are supporting 2.0 right now as it is in public beta. Responses might be a little slowed, but they are there. Many of our support team are very familiar with the 2.0 code, so they can provide very good help.

When it is ready. We want to get this out to all the eager people, but we also want it to be solid code, like all our previous releases. We hope to not go beyond the end of the year without releasing it, but it all depends on how quickly we can knock the bugs out.
addendum to Motoko-chan's post:
SMF devolopers can only knock out the bugs if the bugs are found. If you would like to do some bug testing to help expidite the final, stable release of SMF 2.0; please use and test the SMF 2.0 beta forum software. If you are weery of using SMF 2.0 on your website, then visit the xampp website (http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html) and install xampp and SMF 2.0 beta onto your localhost and do some bug testing yourself.
