Title: Levels of "Report to Moderator"
Post by: Trios on January 06, 2005, 09:31:32 PM
I was wondering if it'd be difficult to have different levels of post reporting, such as..

PM to Board Moderators, and icon on forum index showing there's a post that needs to be looked at.
PM to Board Moderators, all Global Moderators, the icon on the index, and an e-mail to the Board Moderators.
Email to the Board Mods, Global Mods, Admin, and icon on index.

Essentially, this would allow a user to decide just how bad a post is and react accordingly. I'd expect the icon on the index to be like the current image for new or no new posts, but instead be red, and clicking it gives a link to the post that needs to be moderated. If more than one post needs to be moderated than it'll show all of them on said link, or at least the latest one and the mod would have to check PMs or look around the forum. The red icon could also be on a the thread that the bad post is in, and clicking it there would bring you to that specific post that needs to be moderated. Of course, the image would only be viewable by moderators, normal users and guests would see the usual images.

I'm trying to learn enough PHP to code things like this myself soon, and if someone makes this mod I'm going to examine how you did it so hopefully I can start to make ones myself :)

I missed this thread before, but yes I think this has some potential.  Keeps the admins from getting all the reports.  Would also be able to help the MODs do their jobs a little better.  MODs depends on reports because they may not see everything, the whole reason for the link in the first place.  Instead of reporting all questionable post to the BUSY admins, they can report to: Board Mod, Global Mod, or Admin. Depending on severity of the offense.

Maybe it could be a checkbox where you can notify 1 or all? Or Notify one of the three levels.

I was thinking of just allowing the user who is reporting the bad post to choose what they felt the severety of the offense was, low medium or high, and the forum reacting accordingly with either the board mods, board mods and global mods, or all of the above + admins, using a combination of emails and PMs so that things are smoothly run.

That way if someone posted something in a wrong forum,  a person could say low severety and a board mod would come look, but if they  found a way to get around a word filter and the entire post was expletives and pure hatred then they could say high so it's taken care of quickly and the admins are instantly alerted to the problem.

I just thought it made sense....

I just that would make More sense... Not totally leave it up to the members to chose who to send it to, but type of offenses they are reporting.
