Title: Clean upgrade from SMF 1.1.x to SMF 2.0
Post by: riker on May 03, 2008, 07:11:42 AM
Is it possible to do this so you don't have old redundant files hanging around the server?.  I was thinking perhaps you could just delete anything that wasn't from the date of the upgrade but would that work ?

When Your Upgrading, The files found in the Upgrade archive should be transferred to Host using FTP and files and/or directories with conflicting names should be overwritten.

So you can garentee me as someone who knows that there wont be any older stuff just left behind that can be deleted ?  No thought not which is why I'm asking the question here.  I know you are trying to help out on the forum but trust me it's not but  I know one of the dev team will be able to  help.  What you seem to have forgotten is SMF 1.1.x isn't the same as SMF 2.0!

Make a backup of the files and database first!!!! Then delete all the files except Settings.php and the attachments, avatars, and smileys directories. Then upload the SMF 2.0 files and run upgrade.php. You will be left with just the SMF 2.0 files and the default theme. Any mods and themes you had before will be gone, not a big deal since they probably aren't compatible with SMF 2.0 anyway.

Right I finally decided to upgrade my main forum and it went smooth but with a few minor hiccups afterwords.

1: Whenever I try to search I get the messege

QuoteYou last search was less than 2 seconds ago. Please try again later.

Now I can wait 20 minutes but I still get that error

2:  Ad Managament doesn't seem to want to play even though I've got everything 777

Anyone else had problems like this ?

Found what caused the search problem anyway. It was the embedded video clip mod
