Title: Long URL's?
Post by: Cheese Head on May 03, 2008, 02:55:33 PM
In an SMF 2.0 post you can click the URL button and cut and paste an address.

Sometimes these are addresses are long, probably a dumb question, but is there a way to shorten what is visible, ie "the link to the product on Amazon is here".

Both 1.1.x and 2.0 can do what your asking. You just do

[url=http://www.amazon.com]Amazon[/url]

Perfect, thanks, I was wondering why when I edited a post with a URL link the link was changed to read twice!

Two other silly questions:

1) How are my members supposed to know that as it's not intuitive. Is there a little wizard I'm missing or should I write a FAQ to let them knwo how to do it?

2) If I just post the URL without using the "Insert Hyperlink" button, it still works, albeit without the ability to name the URL as above. Is that normal, I assumed you should always use the "Insert Hyperlink" button?

The bbcode buttons are optional, just for ease.
You can always type is manually into the posts.
