Title: Automatic member registration and login
Post by: [email protected] on May 03, 2008, 08:41:54 PM
I have some things I need to accomplish with our SMF forum.  We're a membership org and people will have already logged in when they click on the forum link.

I'd like to be able to call some PHP module on our forum which checks to see if they're already registered and if not - load in a record to the members table (I know how to do this except I can't get the password to hash correctly).

Then I'd like to call a login function (in the background, would setting the cookies do it?) which logs them in to our forum.

That's it.  I'll pay for an answer.  I've spent days researching this to no avail.

Thanks.

Does it have to be Joomla?  There are a number of bridge solutions here that do just that for other CMSs.

^ he didnt say Joomla in the first place ( I read his post) so I dont know if it has to be Joomla either.
The problem he doesnt know he has is, he needs a bridge - even though he's only asking for shared logins.

what happens when the user changes their password or other particulars in the primary system?
you need to either sync the info, or disable the functionality on one side
