297 Smileys all in one package! This *is* a package that can be installed and uninstalled with the package manager. Once installed you can pick the smileys from a new smileys directory to use or you can import them all!
Nice job ;)

Thanks considering I spent many hours pulling out my hair trying to find the correct syntax for the package file.
(And I don't have much hair to pull out) ;)http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=23561.msg187993#msg187993
thx :)
Glad you made the effort to release this. Keep it up!! Thanks!
Wow... Thanx! I didn't think this package would be so popular! 57 downloads in less than a day! I hope everyone who downloaded it enjoys it! :D
mmmmmmmmmm smilies... i'm downloading your smilies package now.. this reminds me of when i was using Invision Board 1.3.... I had to write a script for Invision Board to install smilies, i had 250 to install.
i was just looking for smilies a couple of days ago, so thanks for your smilie package

Well , I hope you like it :-\
How is this installed? I made the new smiley set but do I need to add each of the new ones by hand?
EDIT: Sorry I didn't see that little thing that said I had 297 not yet imported. No problems, great mod!
Is this also compatible with 1.0.1?

Some statements about?
Because as a none programmer I am a little carefull about try and error.
You know when you've added all those smilies.
Well how do you change the pop-up so that the list of smilies doesn't go on for ever ?
I'd like to see the pop-up have a row of 3 or 4 and then another 3 or 4 on the next row and so on.
How do you do that ?

I didn't see how to import these little devils.
Can someone please give a step by step?
I'm new to the SMF system, and it's all been plain sailing so far, but I'm really stuck on this one!
I'm having a problem installing the Lots_O_Smileys package - I've searched and searched the forums but found nobody else with the same error message!
I downloaded the package to my local machine so that I could examine the smileys, and they are delightful. I found Package Manager in the Admin section of my forum and uploaded the .zip file, and it has created .../Packages/temp with what looks like the necessary files in it, and I was able to see the list of files from Admin. But when I select "Apply Mod" I get an error message as follows:
An Error Has Occurred!
2: rmdir(/home/pagination/webs/ukusforum/htdocs/Packages/temp/Lots_O_Smileys): Directory not empty
File: /home/pagination/webs/ukusforum/htdocs/Sources/Subs-Package.php
Line: 920
I've downloaded and applied the Package Manager patch referred to in Package Manager itself. I've FTPd to the site and CHMODed everything from the temp directory downwards to full read-write permissions (in fact, to 777!), but still I get the error. What am I doing wrong, please?
In case it helps, my phpinfo is at http://www.ukusforum.com/phpinfo.php
Have you made sure that your Sources directory and that Subs-Package.php are writable? Also, check to see if there's a "Lots_O_Smileys):" directory already in your temp directory. If so, try deleting it.
Not sure if that will help, but here's hoping!
I've ensured that both Sources and everything in it, including Subs-Package.php, are 777. I deleted the .../Packages/temp directory (and everything in it). Ran Install Mod again: same error message, after having re-created the temp directory with its subdirectory and files. I'm really bewildered.
Is there a specific tutorial on how to do this stuff? Where, for instance, did you find out that Sources and Subs-Package.php had to be writable? I love this forum package, but finding out how to make some bits of it work is really hard!
whats the easiest way to change mutiple smiles to popup. i installed the lotsosmilelys and it made them all into post form.
If a smiley doesn't exist in a specific set, it will cause errors. All smileys must either exist in all sets, or not exist in all sets. This is to reduce confusion when mutliple people are using multiple different sets.

I need to know this too. I had to remove lotsosmileys because forum members were complaining that they had to scroll for a mile to reach the post box.
How do I get them in a popup box???
In Admin, under Edit Smileys, there is the option when Modifying to change Location from Post Form to Popup. Will that help?
I don't know if this will work, because I still haven't succeeded installing LotsOSmileys, because of the error I reported above, and I still cannot figure out why it won't work for me! Has nobody else had this problem and solved it? Please?? :'(
Thats a hell of a lot of smilies. Better use the pop-up window for them. Great job.
Installing now - - but. I think I'm going to like this mod... can't wait to check out the smilies!!!
Damn - permission error.
Ok, now to figure out what I gotta change.

Me too!! :o
Its a bit quicker if you go to set smiley order, but its still a pain.
I'm at a complete loss here! I installed the set with no hitches. When I selected to use that smiley set, all I get is words that show up above the text area for typing. On top of that, I can only see about 16 total. I checked the setting, and none are selected to be in the pop-up.
Is there something else I'm missing?
Just to add something. I checked the CHMOD for the folders mentioned, and they are 755. Do I need to make them writeable for groups and everyone, or will 755 do?
My girlfriend installed this mod the other night on her board only to find that you had to set each smiley by hand. If anyone would like, once we get around to sorting them all out with proper codes, I'll do a database dump and offer up the .sql file with them to spare everyone else the trouble. :)

This is a two part fix, really. First, check that both your path and url to your smileys directory are corect. When my chicka installed this, her url was missing alltogether. Second, and this is the big one, this set does not seem to include replacements for the defaults. So you will need to copy those into the "Lots-O-Smileys" directory. That should take care of that problem.
go to smf_smileys table and use the sql command:
UPDATE smf_smileys SET hidden=2
WHERE smf_smileys.ID_SMILEY>20;
make sure the first 20 is the default ones.
im sorry i got the wrong ones as default. I believe they are the ones containing icon_<something>
Can someone tell me how the icons actually show up as an image file rather than a text?
*edit: it should work. I did not set the base path. use the above command. The problem with mine is that i mixed up the "default" to include all the icon instead of solely those inside the "default" folder. so all my base path was wrong. If you are making a fresh installation or haven't mix all this up, the sql command should work.*
thank you I have been lookin for smilies.... nice work

Sorry, this cute litte thing refuses to be installed properly in my forum :(. I use the package manager and upload the distribution from my pc, and Add the mod. I look via ftp and find, yes - the files are uploaded nice 'n' pretty to the Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys directory... But as I use the admin tool for Smileys, the Smiley package does not turn up there... Just classic and default... What may be wrong?
Maybe it's because this thing hasn't been updated in years...

Something strange is happening. I have FileZilla as my FTP client. When I try deleting Lots_O_Smileys from my /absolute_path/Packages/temp, it reappears. 550 Can't remove directory: Permission denied. Before I do anything, such as set the permissions to 777 (if I even can), do I want to also set the package-info.xml to 777 and delete it as well?
I am determined to get Lots_O_Smileys installed. :)
That's just a temporary directory. It shouldn't matter.
-[Unknown]
Thank you.
Done. When I apply mod, nothing happens. Also, /temp is long gone.
Edited:
Seems like my absolute path was messed up. :-\
I applied the mod just fine, and got hung up on 'proceed.' Some of the files this package needs to modify are not writable. This needs to be changed by logging into FTP and chmoding the files.
I logged back into FTP and the files are not there ... strange. There is no /absolute_path/Packages/temp, Lots_O_Smileys, nor is there package-info.xml. Looks like I'll have to manually upload it. brb ...
Edited:
I'm a bit aggrivated. I'll have to lay this to rest tonight and take another stab at it tomorrow. It's late. :(
hello to all... it compliments for beautifulst the forumI want to ask to you..install of the smiles but I would want to insert them all like POP-UP... as I come here? Thanks
I would like to say i'm sorry for not checking back for so long. I have been working on several projects including trying to start my own online buisness which requires a multitude of scripting projects in itself. I promise when I can spare some time I will work on answering all of your questions that have not been answered already. I had no idea this small mod would be so popular. I appreciate all of you who have helped in my place. Thanks.
After "thumbing" through all your questions I can answer one now. After you install the package you will have to import the smileys before they show up. I hope that helps some of you.

Does anybody know how to import? It's probably something simple, but different people use different words when communicating.

It might have something to do with version. I havent updated this in several months. The version I am using now is 1.0.1 which is way behind. One of the coders here might help you like [unknown].
how can the smiley window be resized?..i didnt see a solution in post? so you dont have to scroll across the world..
thx
I installed this and couldn't get it to show the images. I then uninstalled this, because no matter what I did in trying to get the images to show in other than alt images....they would not. Even though this is now uninstalled....the missing images still show up as alt images. How do I remove them from showing in the posts section. The only way I've found is to not allow customizing..once customizing is clicked on...alt images still show.
SOS!
installed the smilies package but dont see it when replying to posts....
I selected it as being the default set, but I dont see the [MORE] link to the popup.....?
Dough! found it...
Anyone get this thing to work yet? i spent 3 hours just now and still cant get it to work, I uploaded the new smily folder, got it in the right place, when i go into adming and look at the smiles in this dire, they are all there and show up in admin panel unde smily set. They all show hidden, but anyway when i put a selection mark by
"Enable smiley set selection by members" (and i have that new folder set as the default) and i go try and post it removes my post window somehow. I cant get the default so show either, tis have been a total nightmare hell just to get some smilies to work
This is really confusing if you are new to SMF.
Ok, questions:
1. switch from above post to pop up and back - where can I set this? Looked everywhere in Smileys but couldn't find it.
2. I installed the smileys with the package manager. Then I made a new smiley set, pointed the URL to the Lots_O_Smileys folder in the Smileys dir. I set this as default set.
The problem now is that the images of the default smileys do not show up .. can not of course, since the default URL now goes no longer to the default folder: iread about this in the pages of this thread but I am confused. Do I have to manually upload the smileys from the default folder into Lots_O_Smileys? Do I then have to manually add the information like shortcuts for the image (not sure about the correct terms but so that when you type e.g. : ) an image appears instead)?
I am also confused about that only a small number of smileys appear above the post .. shouldn't there be more?
Would it be possible to write a step by step instruction so that future users don't have to go through all 4 pages of this thread? I had no idea how to import until I found a link on one of the last pages ..
Pls. take my hand and walk me through. :)
Kidding, I just need some initial support ..
Hmm. May sound like a noob - but i cannot see that popup windows with additional smileys every1 talkin about!!!

Same question, except I want to change them all at once, not one-by-one.
new user here
trying to add more smileys.
I downloaded Lots-O-Smileys and did a package install.
All I got was text instead of graphics - I played around and decided to remove the directory.
I have gotten back to having the default and classic smileys - but they are also text. (This is better than when I had no smileys on my pages LOL)
When I go into Edit Smileys - all I see is text - no graphics and no errors.
A couple of questions
1) How do I get back to having graphic smileys?
2) How do I install Lots-O-Smileys, so I get graphics and not text?
My site is - http://www.club285.com
PS - I have read this and other threads and I'm still clueless :)
I used the Package Manager to install and then set Lots_O_Smileys as the default, but I get red Xs instead of smileys. My default and classic work fine, so I wonder what I am doing wrong.

Go into your site and make sure the files are in your smielys/default directory - when I installed they were put into a Lots_o_smileys directory
In the admin panel under smileys - make sure the following is filled in
Base URL to all smiley sets: http://www.YOUR URL.com/Smileys
Absolute path to all smiley sets: /home/YOUR URL/public_html/Smileys
The smiley thing in SMF is something the authors should fix up, it is a pain in as-s to work with smileys in this software. Why haven't they fix it up to be a bit easier. Got same problems as all in this thread :-[
I am using SMF 1.1 rc2
Instead this mod, everything worked perfectly. Sat there for about an hour removing the smiley's i didn't like, and ordering the ones people will see when they post, and putting the rest in the popup menu.
Then after an hour of clicking and clicking and more clicking, i go to post my first reply to add some cool new smileys and all i see is text instead of smileys
Happy Sad Angry etc. Even in the popup. How do i get the images to show up? Or is this the exact same problem everyone else is having? I CAN see the images when i order them in the admin section, and they all show up in all pages of the smiley section in the Administration part of my forum just not in the actual forums where i need them to show up ::)
put the smilies you want to use in the default smilies directory. If your using smf 1.1 rc2 then go to admin panel and click on "Smileys and Message Icons" then on "settings" make sure "Enable customized smileys" is checked and all your paths are right. Then go to "Add Smiley" and browse for it in the drop down menu, enter the code for it and it should show up.
EDIT: Make sure the smilies directory in your file manager in cpanel is set (chmodded) to 777. It might not matter but might as well anyway. Hope that helped a bit.

It shows up when I do "add smiley" but then when i go to post its just text. also when I PM people there are not icons just text for Reply, Forward, etc.
Did you upload these through ftp ??? Make sure that the images are not 0k if so upload them again.

2. Download the appropriate file
3. DONT unzip it
4. Go into the package manager in your admin center
5. Click Download Files
6. Package Upload > Browse File > Upload
7. Follow the instructions
i did that...and when i try to apply modifications, it says that some files are not writable, and it tries to connect to the ftp and change attributes...and then, it just stops... (p.s. i am using a free hosting service)...

When i used to install smileys right and you go to post message like what im doing right now you see say 10 smileys, if you installed this that means 260 god damn smileys have to load before you can even post? thats soooooooooooooooooooo annoying is there a way to hide them so people can add them if they want?
You can make them either in post form (what you see when you post) Hidden (so no one sees) or popup (you will see a link saying "more" next to the listed smilies when you post.

When I create a new smiley set and check the box to import smileys already in this directory I get:
Unable to import smiley set. Either the directory is invalid or cannot be accessed.
I have SMF 1.1.2
I have set wide open permissions on the forum.. Any ideas?
Ruthiness, if I were you I'd probably double-check that assumption by looking for the /lotsosmileys folder and checking the permissions.
What I really wanted to mention to anyone else reading this was, I just installed it yesterday on an smf 1.1.3 setup and it works just fine. Members have been using the new smileys. Good luck!
can u please make it to smf 1.1.3 or is there any other way or package to put new and more smileys ??? ??? ??? ???
With any smiley package you can just extract the package archive and ftp the smileys in it to your Smileys directory then activate them via your ACP...it's probably easier to do that than to mess with the package compatibility.

Whats ACP and do u kno any good site to download smiley packages ?
ACP=Admin Control Panel...what you get when you click on "admin" in the navigation bar.
You'll find quite a few smileys in different packs on the SMF mods list...it's likely that they won't show as being compatible with your version of SMF but if you do as I described previously you can use them.
Other forum scrips have smileys available...CMS (Content Management Systems) scripts have smileys too. You can find a lot of them without putting in much effort....google is your friend.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Fixed.
It's annoying that I have to start this request for help in a thread that's already five pages long and been dead for eight and a half months. I want this darned thing to work, though, so I'll give it a shot.
I've been trying to get this mod to work for about two weeks. I've followed different directions from different people, none of whom seem to use the same words for things and none of which are very clear on what they mean. This last time, I used the directions posted by aslambilal, and before I even got to the part I didn't understand (Step10: Make it default and import the smileys form teh directory), it failed. I have screenshots on my site here (http://karynsplace.net/smftroubleshooting.html), showing step by step what I did and the results.
Will someone please help me with this? There's no FAQ for Admins for SMF itself, which is just absolutely absurd.
Hi Kyrna, I wrote my own set of instructions that worked for me, although they are a bit old they might work for you. I will PM them to you.
Here's how I got my smiley sets to work and although I only use one or two from the Lots-O-Smileys set the method is applicable to any set of smiley's. The key to it all seems to be that EVERY smiley has to have its own unique name and EVERY smiley has to be in the default directory. That's not to say you can't have separate sets of smiley's, you can, but a copy of each of the smiley's in your set has also to be in the default folder for it to show as an image when posting.
So the way I did it was to first collect together all the smiley's I wanted and put them into a folder. I gave the folder a name; you can call it anything you like, and then copied the folder to 'Smileys'. I then had three folders under 'Smileys', the original 'default, classic and my new one. I then copied all the smiley's from my new folder to the default folder.
Next I went to ACP and the smileys and message icons section. Here I clicked settings and put a tick in 'Enable customized smileys' and also one in 'Enable smiley set selection by members'. Then in the 'Smiley Sets' tab I clicked 'New smiley Set'. Here I selected my new set, gave it a name and ticked 'Import smileys already in this directory'. I then clicked 'Save Changes'
In the 'Edit Smileys' tab I selected my new folder from the drop down box at the top, put a tick next to 'modify' on each of my new smiley's and in the bottom drop down box that's called 'With Selected:' I chose 'Show on popup'
And that was it. It may not be the correct way to do it and I may be missing something simple but I don't care; I've got all my smiley's showing and now I'm off to do battle with the 'Smiley Pops' mod.

Thank you both, gentlemen. I came up with an answer similar to both of you and while it's far from elegant and I still sometimes get error messages, they're at least in there.
I'm very glad you finally got your smileys to work; I had a battle with them myself. >:(
And now that I've sorted out my database problem with the 'Smiley Pops' mod I have a whole row of nice little sets of smiley's to click on under some brand new default smiley's on post replies.
Thank i'll try
How to add this in Popup Box?
Hi guys, do you have for this smilies database table? (mean: SQL backup for smf_smileys table) i dont want add per smile one by one, its too hard, and i dont have not much time. Can you send the sql file?
Thank you.
I've used this set on alot of my sites but havent for a while due to just forgetting to. Anyway, all my sites are now on 2.0 and I was wondering what I need to do to use / install these on a 2.0 site.
Or do I just emulate 1.0 in the package manager ?
You don't even need to do that. There's literally no version specified in the package - and $smileysdir should work the same in 2.0 as it did in 1.1, so I see no reason why you couldn't just install it.
All the installer does is unpack the zip, move the folder full of smileys to the Smileys folder and that's it...

Gotcha, thx as always Arantor... I just wanted to "check and see" before I went to test just in case.
