Title: SMF 1.0.1
Post by: bostasp on January 09, 2005, 07:00:36 PM
We are happy to bring you SMF 1.0.1. This is a minor release, but contains many bugfixes. As always, we hope this new version is more stable, usable, and generally better than the previous.

We would much appreciate it if you would give us constructive feedback on this release, as well as bug reports.

If you feel you have found a security hole or very serious bug, it is best to email [email protected] to make sure the correct people are notified.  However, if it is not critical, it will be more quickly addressed if it is posted to SMF Coding Discussion (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=60.0) or General English Support (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=9.0).  For other problems, please post in the appropriate section of General English Support (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=9.0).

Some of the changes and bugfixes from the previous version (1.0) are:

Please see the changelog for a more detailed list of these changes, and more.

If you are upgrading from 1.0, the easiest way to update is through the package manager.  However, if you want to use file uploads, you only need to use the "update" package as it includes only the changed files since 1.0's release. However, if you have any mods installed it would be better to use the "upgrade" package because it contains all the files for an SMF installation. Remember that you can use the "upgrade" package to come from any previous version of SMF. You can also use it to upgrade from YaBB SE.

You can always find information posted here about things like installation (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=6765.0), upgrade (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=6832.0), and more. The zip files themselves also include manuals. If you would like us to install or upgrade for you, please tell us and we'll try to get right on it.

Thanks,

Looks very much like you installed another modification twice; that's the "warning" mod.

After the upgrade, the package manager suggested that the modifications I put in, were no longer there.  If what you say is correct, I assumed I needed to put them back again.

Can this be fixed?

You mean it didn't say they were installed anymore?  This definitely should not be.

If you get an error such as that, the best way to resolve it is to download the upgrade zip file from the downloads page, and upload the files within.

I had the same problem before with the Package manager telling me there were no modifications install, and there were. I assumed this was a problem with the users today mod.

And you're certain you upgraded _all_ the files in the zip file to the folders they're meant to be in, especially Security.php to Sources/?

V.I.P., that is because that is from the configuration. That is the 'Copyright' that you can customize and stuff. You wouldn't want an upgrade to overwrite SQL Files, some other forums change that, to indicate thier content copyrights, etc.

You can change that manually, but im sure he means commented copyright tags, or copyright notices in administrative areas.

I had a similar problem.  I reinstalled the mod, then unistalled the mod.  Everything was fine then and the mod was still installed.  Weird!

I had to reinstall the full 3.2 meg SMF 1.01 UPGRADE package to correct my error.  Not the smaller update set.  With the exception of the mods that were no longer installed, all my settings, user groups and permissions were not changed.  I'll look at it more deeply after I get some rest but it's back up thanx to [Unknown]

I still have a learning curve yet but I'll get it.  ;)

Question here: if the update package (from the Packages Manager) is not able to apply the modifications to a certain file, does the package manager stop the modification process or does it just skip the problematic step and go to the next step?

Skip, but... I don't recommend depending on said behavior.

Sounds like it didn't download/upload properly.  Please go into your Packages directory via FTP and delete the .tar.gz file.

ok, quick question.  Do I download the "update" file then use the package manager to up load it or do I click the-
Latest packages
As was inevitable, a few small mistakes have been found in 1.0. You can install install this patch (click here to install) to easily update yourself to the latest version.

If you have any problems applying it, you can use the version posted on the downloads page - although, any modifications you have installed will need to be uninstalled. Please post on the forum if you need more help.

When I do click here to install I get this error now-

An Error Has Occurred!
There are no installation or uninstallation actions defined!

Are you sure you're using 1.0?  It may be that your server isn't allowing you to download the file.

I suggest you use the update or upgrade file from the downloads page, and extract it manually (no using the package manager.)

Alternatively, you can try downloading this file and uploading it to Packages:

if (copy($url, $destName) && $img = @gif_loadFile($destName) && gif_outputAsPng($img, $destName))

And... it does the following steps:
  - copy($url, $destName)
  - $img = @gif_loadFile($destName)
  - gif_outputAsPng($img, $destName)

In that order, even.  Where in the above process could $img find itself referenced, yet not defined?

I have modified the index template in order to integrate the forum with my site (www.translatum.gr/forum) and I also have installed mods. If I go for the upgrade using the package manager

1) Will my integrated index template be lost? If yes, is there a way of doing the upgrade without affecting it?

2) Will my mods need to be reinstalled?

If you install the "package" from your package manager I believe you shouldn't need to do either. If you install via ftp then you will need to reinstall your mods, but needn't touch the index template.

HI,
I just updated to 1.0.1. Worked great.

But we are still having a lot of Problems with pictures. Thought they are gone when everything is updated.

No Pictures can be seen when using Firefox but the boardpictures (icons, buttons aso.)
Avatars are gone, attached pictures aren't seen in threads, only the download link.
Even downloading an atteched Picture from the Board doesn't work. It downloads, saves to disk but cannot be opened in a program. "Unsupported format"

In IE everything works great (I think).
Did I make a mistake?
What's going wrong?

Need help !!!!!!!

Thx PSI

the upgrade through packaging manager really went well here also...  to the newbies, make sure to read the whole update manager page, because you might have to login to the ftp to modify some files . Look at the bottom of the page , it might ask you your login name and password of your ftp , if you don't do this step, the upgrade won't be completed.

I installed the update on an SMF forum that had the Topic Rating mod installed. It went through without a hitch.

I updated a fresh install of 1.0 to 1.0.1 without a hitch as well.

Thanks for the update.

My update went fine.

I noticed that I didn't have the $boarddir/changelog-themes.txt or $boarddir/changelog.txt files. I assumed that they would be created with the update, but i can't find them. Should I have created blank ones before the update?

Here's an error for you:
When I use Package Manager, it seems to set the owner of the temp directory to 48(Apache) then cannot do the uopdate with this error:

2: fopen(): SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 522 is not allowed to access /home/virtual/site20/fst/var/www/html/forum/Packages/temp owned by uid 48

Manually works fine... Go figure...

Just checked in to report on my upgrade from SMF RC1 to the most-recent 1.01.

Perfection itself! No problems at all, went like a dream, and done in a matter of moments.

And all on a board which has been around since the hairiest days of YABBSE's first dawn, and STILL going strong with the same database, same look and feel, but a zillion more happy and contented users in all those years!

My hat goes off to the SimpleMachines developers (you know who you are, and you'll never be 'Unknown' in this house!) Simple the machine may be, but great is its power!

Respect, and as ever, many, many thanks!

If I upgrade through the package manager, this will replace certain key files then or does it modify them?

I have modified several files in the code in order to manually have more options in user profiles.  Each time I upgrade, I then have to recode those files.

So, does going through the package manager just merely add or correct code?  If this is so, then my code is there.

Just curious.

Thanks.

Unknown, you stated that the package manager is the easiest way to update for those of us with SMF 1.0.  In an effort to save David from having to do my upgrade I looked in the package manager for SMF 1.01 but couldn't find it.  Where would I find SMF 1.01?  I looked under the SMF choice but no dice.

Is that the "update" package or the "upgrade" package mentioned in Unknown's original post?

I get the following error when using the package manager:

2: Unable to create '/home/httpd/vhosts/praetorian-guard.com/httpdocs/forum/changelog-themes.txt~': Permission denied

I read earlier where someone else was told to ignore a similar error and that it didn't prevent the installation.  However, when I checked my package manager, it still had [Apply Mod] next to the 1.0.1 update package.  I also ran a detailed version check, and all my fiels are still 1.0.

Ideas?

A quick question re the update....

I have just had a major problem with something else, and as a result had to redo a lot of code changes, I only just finished and saw that 1.0.1 was available.

I'm reluctant to update if I'm going to have to go through it all again, for what are only minor changes to SMF. Our site uses two "home made" themes, if I use package manager to do the upgrade will it lose any of those code changes and mods I have installed ? If its a yes then i'll leave it for now, if its a no, I will complete it.

I suggest you post a new topic about this, if you haven't already.  I also suggest you try using repair_settings.php.  What is repair_settings.php? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=18096.0)

Don't worry about it.

To anyone having issues with those files, or with creating files with ~ in them... it shouldn't be that much a problem.  But, it may very well be caused by the folder SMF is installed in not being 777 itself.

Same to RyanB - it should be fine, using the package manager update.  However... remember...

Also, backup.  And did I mention that backing up was a good idea?  I should hope I did :P.  Seriously - do make sure to backup, it shouldn't be a huge process and should be something you do *at least* a few times a month anyway.

Heh, well, you can either turn safe mode off or enable suExec.  The two options nicely compliment each other, but if you use safe mode without PHP suExec you're just asking for problems like these.

No, it won't, but... the Spanish language files were updated more than slightly.

I would use the package manager update; it won't overwrite anything.

For the search error, find in Search.php:

$tmp[$ID_MSG] .= "($modSettings[search_pointer], $row[ID_TOPIC], $relevance, $ID_MSG, $row[numMsg])";

Replace:

$tmp[$ID_MSG] .= '(' . (int) $modSettings['search_pointer'] . ', ' . (int) $row['ID_TOPIC'] . ', ' . (int) $relevance . ', ' . (int) $ID_MSG . ', ' . (int) $row['numMsg'] . ')';

How do I modify files? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=24110.0)

This won't be necessary for most people.

The changes to the templates are minor, and can be ignored.  Nevertheless, to update them you would have to make the same custom changes to whatever themes you have installed.

You may wish to download the Dutch language files off the downloads page and upload them.

Darn, too slow.

For the search error, find in Search.php:

$tmp[$ID_MSG] .= "($modSettings[search_pointer], $row[ID_TOPIC], $relevance, $ID_MSG, $row[numMsg])";

Replace:

$tmp[$ID_MSG] .= '(' . (int) $modSettings['search_pointer'] . ', ' . (int) $row['ID_TOPIC'] . ', ' . (int) $relevance . ', ' . (int) $ID_MSG . ', ' . (int) $row['numMsg'] . ')';

How do I modify files? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=24110.0)

This won't be necessary for most people.

Unfortunately this didn't help. Done your suggested mod without any difference  :(

I'm running the Board with Dutch language and not the default Theme.....Updat went smooth, BUT:
On checking the install files in the Forum admin I see that:
a) Language Files have old version (Packages.dutch.php / index.dutch.php);
b) Current Template is old version (BoardIndex.template.php / Recent.template.php).

How can I fix this????
No one???????
Thanx!....U2, [Unknown]..... :D

a) New language files can be downloaded in the downloads section: http://www.simplemachines.org/download.php#lang

b) If you have a custom template that you made... it will show as an old version unless you update it.

That could either be a problem with your ISP or your web host. Try uploading another set of random files, and if that happens again, that's most likely the issue.

Number format is still not effective. I've chosen 1,234.00 but all numbers are still displayed as 1234.00 ???

You'll need to resave your settings to fix that, and again it only applies in a great FEW places.

I've tried again - resaved the settings in all different positions but the display format of all numbers always just remains 1234.00. You are welcome to log in for yourself and try it, you're still an admin.

Yes it's partly fixed, I explained in the other thread that there is still a problem with the start=xx not working. It doesn't work here either, try this link (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?action=unread;all;board=3.0;start=20) and you can see that it doesn't start at reply#20 on page 2 like it should do, it is in fact still on page 1, and clicking any of the [1] [2] [3] links doesn't work.

For the search error, find in Search.php:

$tmp[$ID_MSG] .= "($modSettings[search_pointer], $row[ID_TOPIC], $relevance, $ID_MSG, $row[numMsg])";

Replace:

$tmp[$ID_MSG] .= '(' . (int) $modSettings['search_pointer'] . ', ' . (int) $row['ID_TOPIC'] . ', ' . (int) $relevance . ', ' . (int) $ID_MSG . ', ' . (int) $row['numMsg'] . ')';

I'm getting the same problem with the Search, I already tried with your code and it haven't effect, the error is there.

[Unknown] you speak some spanish ¿right? I write a post in the Spanish Forum about the problem: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=24354.0

Actually, this is the error message:
QuoteYou have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '(5, 281, 25, 0, 0)(5, 296, 25, 0, 0)' at line 3

Is something related to the version of MySQL?

I've been a charter member and running multiple forums from YaBBS up to now, and there's a conceptual twist that I just realized I'm missing, re: upgrade/update.

If I've modified the "index.template.php" file for my theme, to customize before() and after() displays, and I download and install all the files from an UPGRADE or UPDATE, this of course is not going to update those template files in my theme's directory.

Do I then copy the "index.template.php" file from the Default theme, into my customized theme, and then hand-modify it to re-reflect all the customizations I did to "index.template.php"?

I have this niggling feeling that I'm the only one having to do that everytime there's an update. It's kind of awkward finding all the same places to insert my custom code in the new version of "index.template", but if I don't do that, and keep the old "index.template", then the version from before the UPGRADE or UPDATE may not reflect changes to it included in the UPGRADE or UPDATE.

Right?

Right?

Well, if you have your own theme (a copy of the default) you generally only need those files which you changed.

So, for example, if you only changed index.template.php, you would only need to put that file in the new theme.

Now, the index template (index.template.php, that is) hasn't been changed since about 1.0 (preview) or perhaps RC2.  Even then, it was minor changes, which can be avoided in your own template.  There are also differencing utilities (included in things like ConTEXT, a text editor I'm fond of) which can help you update your customized templates.

And, of course, should you ever need help with any such modifications we'd be more than willing to help.

Ah, excellent, that was the conceptual twist I was missing: you don't generally modify the index.template files in updates, so I can retain my old ones. Thank you!

BUT, Great Balls of Fire! While you were replying I installed the UPDATE for 1.01 (copied all files over the old ones, ran UPGRADE.PHP successfully), and suddenly I'm getting:

---
8: Undefined index: welcome_guest_activate
File: /usr/www/rscott/ageplay.org/www/backside_2/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 1652
---

...in one forum, and:

---
Incorrect key file for table: 'snuggery_members'. Try to repair it
File: /usr/www/rscott/ageplay.org/www/snuggery/Sources/Subs.php
Line: 478
---

..in the other! They both use the same MySQL database (different prefixes of course). In phpMyAdmin I see that the database and tables all appear there -- and the 1.01 UPGRADE.PHP utility reported no problems manipulating my database.

But I can't even get them to run enough to get in and try repairing, as the second error said.

Can you point me to where to start figuring this one out? This is the first actual *crash* I've ever had with your exemplary project! Gadzooks!!

Jittering nervously,
Bobby

This one is simple; old or out of date language files.

QuoteIncorrect key file for table: 'snuggery_members'. Try to repair it

Line: 478

! Attempt to fix "incorrect key file" errors too. (Errors.php)

This one is a lot worse.  Can you try to ANALYZE or CHECK said table using "operations" in phpMyAdmin, if REPAIR won't work?

I'm not sure whether this was caused by SMF, but it may be that there was too much index updating for your server to take (which is a bad thing.)  If you want, I can try to fix it for you - if you pm me with phpMyAdmin access.

Yes
ZA has a general annoyance factor built in to stop things like this.  Disable it temporaroly and try the upload. It only happens if many attacks are coming against your computer. Its pretty good at what it does but can annoy me when it tries. Disable it for 5 mins while you upload.

$tmp[$ID_MSG] = '(' . (int) $modSettings['search_pointer'] . ', ' . (int) $row['ID_TOPIC'] . ', ' . (int) $relevance . ', ' . (int) $ID_MSG . ', ' . (int) $row['numMsg'] . ')';

-[Unknown]

I tried that, but got a load of errors again.  So I replaced it with a new copy of search.php, and I still get:

8: Undefined index: ID_FIRST_MSG
File: /var/www/html/forum/Sources/Search.php
Line: 560

The search works, so its not a big problem, and at least its only one error per search instead of pages.

what mods do work with smf1.0.1.... because when i use the package manager from the admin panel it says that several files are not installed succesfully

with smf 1.0 i did not have that problem... My smf board is at smf.champi.nl

I noticed that I didn't have the $boarddir/changelog-themes.txt or $boarddir/changelog.txt files. I assumed that they would be created with the update, but i can't find them. Should I have created blank ones before the update?

Don't worry about it.

To anyone having issues with those files, or with creating files with ~ in them... it shouldn't be that much a problem.  But, it may very well be caused by the folder SMF is installed in not being 777 itself.

I tried changing my /forum folder to 777 ... now instead of:
2: Unable to create '/home/httpd/vhosts/praetorian-guard.com/httpdocs/forum/changelog-themes.txt~': Permission denied

I get:
2: fopen("/home/httpd/vhosts/praetorian-guard.com/httpdocs/forum/changelog-themes.txt", "w") - Permission denied

I still get no change in ANY files ... a detailed version check shows all of my files (not just the themes) at 1.0 or lower.  Something to note ... I have 3 different forums ... completely separate DB's, files, templates etc.  I am getting the same error on all three of them.

Could be, but it seems to work fine for me in Firefox; what browser are you using?

QuoteThe upgrader found some old or outdated language files.

Please make certain you uploaded the new versions of all the files included in the package, even the theme and language files for the default theme.

I have downloaded the newest language for me (german) - uploaded it - but notjong happened. If i click on "Click here to try again." nothing happened.

Strange.  Perhaps something is wrong with the 1.0.1 German package - does the index.german.php show "Version: 1.0.1" at the top?

Random, I'm not sure.  I've asked Compuart to look at some of these problems since he wrote the feature and obviously I'm not fixing it properly.

Can you try looking at what you have on that line, and the lines 10 above and posting them here?

Can you try uploading the Register.php from the "upgrade" package on the downloads page to your site?

Aha, [Unknown], I think I found something about the SQL Syntaxis Error. You code works for me, but I use the Simple Search. If the Simple Search is enabled, don't generate any error's log, but if Simple Search is disable then show two pages of logs with this:

8: Undefined index: ID_FIRST_MSG
Archivo: /home/***/public_html/foro/Sources/Search.php

Sometimes the line is 624

Edited: Well, seems like even in Simple Search mode, if the result's search are more than 3 pages it generate logs.

-[Unknown]

Unknown, thank you for the quick reply, and in case it helps add to your great body of fix-knowledge, what I ran into which seemed like it was out-of-date langague files (undefined index error, above) took awhile to track down because I clearly did have the right ones -- and it turned out to be a corruption in the MySQL database that had set the  current theme number to one that didn't exist (i.e. I have three themes total, and the current-theme field said "4".

When I changed that manually to "3" with phpMySQL, it solved everything. Appears to've not been loading any language file indexes at all, with a bogus theme number setting, and so bombing on every reference to an index.

Just in case it ever helps someone else down the line...

Thank you VERY much for your diligent support and attention. It's so refreshing these days.

Strange.  It will only get there if it thinks it finds a package.  Regardless, this error should not be shown in 1.0.1.  You may have to upgrade manually.

RC2 to 1.0 requires a manual update (from what I know)
In other words, uninstall all your mods, download the update from the d/l section here, upload the files to your server.

1.0 to 1.0.1 can be done in the package manager...

Then you can reapply any mods that have been updated to v1.0.1

If it's not at the very top of the package manager, as a link, you probably aren't using 1.0.  In this case, you cannot use the package manager method of upgrading.

You may need to talk to your host.  Can you delete the files and upload over them? (remember to keep Settings.php!!)

It did work now, I was using the wrong upgrade file.

Now I see a different problem: I have Mambo + SMF... when I open SMF Admin directly it says I´m running 1.0.1... when I open it through MAMBO it keeps telling me that it is 1.0 RC2  :-\

Weird.

AiZ

Edit the file smf.php in the root of your smf directory...
Find the line that says:
$forum_version = 'SMF 1.0 RC2';

and change it to:
$forum_version = 'SMF 1.0.1';

smf.php is not a part of smf it self, but of the mos_smf bridge...
That should work fine

The copyright is not dynamic, therefore will not change until you apply the next update or upgrade when released.

I did apply 1.0.1 which was supposed to upgrade the copyright.

It has been reported by 2-3 of my users that they are having this problem:

Tried to PM you about this, but it seems it still not possible to PM someone. I can click on the PM-icon and  get a PM-post window, but as soon as I send the PM it is said that the person I try to PM does not exist...!?!?!?!?

I have had this happen to me as well and was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction to get this IM problem working.

I have checked and re-checked and can't find any setting that will change this but I may be looking at it and can't see it right there in front of me!

HELP!    8)

Do you know the name (Username and Display name) of the person they are PM'ing. It may be something to do with the characters in their name, although I am only guessing.

I had this happen to me 2-3 times as well Grudge, and I doublechecked that and even used the pick a user and pick the users name then when you click to send it, it pops up and say the user is not known.

So it is something to do with what I thought that maybe it was a privilage setting and I checked everything in that area and found nothing there. So that why I cam here to see if someone that knows the workings of the coding may know where it is getting lost at.

Hope this helps tie it down a little better, Thanks for the time . . . .  8)

Did you install any mods?  Did you try to run RepairBoards.php?  Try to over-write the subs.php?

Don't know if any that will help.  Sometimes, I have a problem and when I over=write the index.php it will cure it.

Snuffy, did you check permissions?

If you mean permissions on folders I am on a windows server and don't set permissions with the setup.

If you mean privileges I have looked through there and have not fingered out which one might effect this.

If you can shed some light on which privilege to look at please enlighten me and I'll try anything at this point!    :) ;) :D ;D

I'm just wondering if you are digging too deep.  If the only problem you're having is sending and receiving IMs on your board, in your membergroup permissions, do you have a check in the box for read and send personal memberships.

I'm not sure why that would have happened.  Anyway, you cna upload the upgrade or update files from the archive on the downloads page to the left.

Snuffy, can you post an exact copy of the error message?  Does it perhaps only happen for members with strange characters in their names?

Something strange happens.
I've noticed, that regularly I have problems with posting posts.
Particularly, when somebody posts during I'm writing.
That I received now.
fsockopen() [function.fsockopen]: php_hostconnect: connect failed

It's become hard to post message, it takes a lot of time, can't connect to host and ... error.
But it's not because the server is too slowly, it works fine till I post...
And usually, I receive error, but message  is on board.

Everything was fine while we used RC2, several days ago installed 1.0.1.
No server options were changed on it.
But problem is obvious...

If somebody met the same error, tell plz, how to fix it.
Problems in IE and FireFox, on 2 PC I noticed it...

I'm not at all sure what to tell you.  Some people have been having problems because their hosts have applied filtering on the input of PHP scripts, which totally screws up SMF.  There's not much we can do about this.

Thanks Unknown for trying and I understand what you are saying as there is no way you can control all those servers out there!   ;)

I will keep trying and maybe we can find a work around here for this problem, and if I do I will post here what we found so maybe others can learn from it as well.

Again THANKS! to you and the Dev-Team for all the time and work that you have put into this great project to make it the success that it is today.

Thanks from Snuffy and all the members of my communities that I run the SMF on as the forum platform they love . . . . .   ;)

  • Several minor typos have been fixed.
  • Many issues with attachments and avatar uploads were fixed.
  • Some functions were adding more slashes than necessary; this has been fixed.
  • Copyright notices have been updated for 2005.
  • Minor fixes have been implemented in the XMB, YaBB and YaBB SE converters.
  • Notices regarding PHP5 and some error level indicators were fixed in the error log.
  • Smileys can now have special characters in their descriptive text.

Thanks,
Simple Machines
