The "AquaMania Dark" Theme series is a set of dark aqua style themes in various color schemes. The buttons are available in many languages (currently 21). PM me or post a reply here if your language is missing. The themes form together kind of a rainbow. All themes have new button sets, bbc tags, post icons, topic icons and fitting general icons. Most of the icons are made new from scratch.
The graphics of this theme series are in a corporate style such that different colors can be combined. This opens the possibility to create many more different themes out of them.
I have worked more than a month in these themes so I care for copyright and credits etc. Please read and follow the license before you download or use the themes. I am very serious about the recoloring thing..

I have made also new topic and post icons which fit perfectly into the theme style. The blue01 theme is so to say finished. It is installed on a beta 4.1 test site and almost ready for packing. The last checks are being done. In addition I am thinking about the license under which the themes are released. Basically I am thinking about releaseasing them kind of free. However do not want to allow any kind of selling or unauthorized redistributing of the themes or parts of them.

There are many ways possible to perform such illegal actions. To burn a graphics collection on a cd and sell this is only one possibility. There are many more less evident ways such as recolor the graphics (passing them through a color filter), or recolor them pixelwise. And redistribute or resell the modified version. Another way is offering them as preinstalled themes in a paid hosting or forum service.
And what if they are used on another profit site (not related to webhosting or forum hosting)? Isn't this also kind of reselling? Namely you sell your service with the aid of that graphics work so implicitely you resell a piece of the theme...
I can imagine even more methods. For me that question is not so easy as it seems to be for you. :)

The dark red theme is uploaded (in the downloads thread, link see 1st post).
It also has its own new images, bbc, post icons, topic icons etc. The top area of the red theme has the layout as the modified blue theme. The simplified version is also included as "index.template-simplified.php" file.

I suppose so. Maybe you did not overwrite the old file or upload to a wrong directory. Make also sure you download the right file - it is the amdblue01beta5-v02.tar.gz file.

The first of the green themes has been uploaded: "Aquamania Dark Green01". Files again in the download thread (link in 1st post of this thread).
You will see that the aqua graphics of this green theme look very neon like. The aqua glow comes great on black backgrounds, but they can of course also be used on white for example. I tried to demonstrate this by mixing black and white in the sample theme which comes with the theme distribution files.
In order to have also a less neon green, which can also be used on earth tone themes, the "Green02" theme was created which will also be uploaded soon.
Very nice themes Andrea, great job. :) I must say I think the red theme is my favorite.

The currently released Aquamania themes were done already before SMF was out for the public, and also before the new default theme layout was done. They are oriented in the classic layout.
If you look at the 2nd screenshot on the 1st post you see I had done a 2nd version of the Aquamania Themes in the new table layout as is used in the default SMF theme. That version would have used the mini aqua buttons and some more slightly different graphics. However at the moment I must say it is to much for me to make that whole series in addition. I finish the current series and will then need a break. Also probably will wait for the graphics download site to be up, it is a little complicated currently to maintain the versions etc. with forum attachments.

Looks you missed several files. Download the theme archive file - maybe you only downloaded the button archive not the full theme? Which file precisely did you download resp. upload to your server?
Unpack the theme archive, upload to your server. And then create a theme from that directory in the admin menu. Eventually in addition upload your non english button set into the appropriate folder (language subfolder in the theme images directory).

Blue was fine, red and green aren't recognised as a theme, they have no theme_info.xml
Copying across theme_info.xml from the blue template and changing the template name worked.

Wrt. the theme_info.xml thanks for the heads up. I remember have seen that some time ago but thought I had updated the theme files. Will at least do this for the next version (hopefully).
Wrt. theme description strings I have also seen that there are new language file entries where one could enter these. However I don't know if this will change again and somehow it would be a duplicate of the information which can be stored in the xml.

My break was originally referring to another theme series. In fact I was waiting with more colors for the Aquamania Dark theme series other reasons. One is that a beta 6 is announced and I heared that I will have to change then all theme files again.
The other reason is that I encountered several copyright violations. (Copyright removals without paying the license fee).
If those issues are not all solved to my full satisfaction I will stop to make free stuff. Such ****** costs me to much energy which I simply cannot afford.

The download works only when you are looged in the forum. In addition it works best when you first save the archive on your local disk as xxx.tar.gz file. Then open the archive from your local disk.

Uhh... from what I can see from the small preview picture, I think dark greenblue02 is just what I'm looking for... so I'll be patiently awaiting the release of that one :).
For the Red theme, is there a readme file? I don't quite understand how to install the theme.
What I did was, create a folder called 'red' inside the 'Themes' folder, then tranferred all the files from the 'red' folder from my h/d.
Anyways, I went to 'Admin Area' on my forum, then went to 'Theme and Layout Settings' and where it says 'Install a new Theme' and where it says 'From a directory on the server:' at the end, I put /red/ and hit 'Install'... it says 'That theme directory doesn't exist, or doesn't contain a theme!'
I don't understand why it's not working.
Andrea, do you have any idea why? Please help. Thank you.
Edit: Oh wait... in another post, someone mentioned that the Red and Green theme is missing the theme_info.xml file and that's why the server isn't detecting that the red and green theme, is a theme.
Do you know when you'll be able to update the red theme?

King, andrea didn't make it hard, she packed all the files into .tar.qz format and it's actually pretty simple to install. You said you like the Red theme, right? Go to the download page, download amdred01beta5.tar.gz, and extract the files (using Winzip's classic interface or a similar program) inside that .tar file to a folder on your computer. Then upload that folder and its contents to your server inside the themes directory. (you may have to copy the theme_info.xml file from the BLUE theme package to the folder you just uploaded) Next, go to your admin center and click on Themes and Layout settings and enter the correct file path to the folder you just uploaded, and hit Install. And you are done! :)

Yeah, that's probably the reason why the Red theme wasn't working at all, cause I need to get the theme_info file from one of the other themes and add it to the folder, and that should make the Red theme work.

Hi Mysterio, I was away for holidays for a week. The easiest install is if you create a new theme in the admin menu *before* you upload my theme files. When you create the new theme name the theme directory "amdred01" for the red theme. Then 2nd enter the theme settings (in the admin menu) and modify the theme name to "Aquamania Dark Red01" and the theme images folder from ".../default/..." to ".../amdred01/...". Finally unzip the theme archive on your local disk and ftp all files into the themes directory on your web host.

The upgrade to RC1 is proceeding well and I hope to replace the Beta5 files by RC1 files during this week.
Just started to upload the RC1 files. Thanks go to Mysterio and Horseman for testing the RC1 themes. The beta5 files are deleted from the download thread - they will be replaced by the RC1 files.
The themes are completely worked over:
- All BoardIndex icons are worked over and are in the same style.
- The header layout layout of the Aquamania themes was adapted to a similar structure as in the default theme. This is on the one hand because I find the top tables and the upshrink headers not bad, on the other hand a faisability compromise for me: I have to upgrade 10 themes, all new features from the default theme are so built into the themes which is also in the interest of the users.
- A new feature has built into the themes: an alert icon shows up when there are unread private messages.
- The themes are W3C CSS-Validator checked.
- The themes are W3C XHTML 1.0 Validator checked.
Here is a preview of the new header table layout (Aquamania Dark Blue01 theme):

I have the AquaMania skin RC1 installed but some of the colors don't appear. I have all the buttons ok but the background colors look the standard grey. Also the logo shows up faded.
Any ideas?

Well, I take back when I said I got it.
I thought that by deleting "theme 1" in the [Create a copy of Default named] box, I would get all the colors (background, borders etc.) but that didn't fix it. I still have the default grey SMF colors so I don't know what went wrong Andrea.

Please feedback if these install instructions work for you. I will then put them into the 1st post of this and the download thread.
Aquamania Theme install instructions with the example of the Aquamania Dark Blue01 theme:
- Make sure to only use the RC1 themes. (Older versions won't work any more) If you are unsure which version your theme files is then make a fresh download of the theme archive.
- Unzip the full theme archive on your local disk. This will create a local folder named "amdblue01".
- Upload this local folder "amdblue01" to your host into the "Themes" folder of your SMF install.
- Enter the admin menu, there "Theme and Layout Settings".
- In the "Install a New Theme" box enter the "From a directory" path. Usually your install folder is already defaulted there, all you have to do is to append the folder name "amdblue01" at the end. Make sure the field "Create a copy of the default theme" is empty. Press the "Install!" button and you are done. Screenshot:

Other colors use different folder names. So in the above install instructions replace the folder name by your color folder, these are:

Because some themes were already published for beta 5. It needs some time to upgrade themes man. I had to redo them all for RC1 starting off the default RC1 theme files.

For those who have former versions of the themes activated: it is strongly recommended to replace all files with those from the RC1 archives, images included. All files were redone for RC1.

I believe the news and stat box in the magenta theme are not coming all the way to the right like your other themes. At least in the preview mode for sure. :)

Fixed. Magenta, Cyan and Yellow themes are repacked and reuploaded. The easiest is if you download the archive again and reinstall the themes.
The two greenblue themes are uploaded.

Behind the scenes I have made theme versions and upgraded them for many different SMF versions. Because I hope that the template system will not change that much until final I released them now for RC1. Let us hope that the themes need not to be redone for RC2 or final. :P

Indeed also a user in the german forums reported those 404's. Those images are not meant to be there - I overlooked to eliminate the call for these in the template files.
The easiest way to get rid of the 404's is this like this:
copy the images/blank.gif and name it according to the missing images.
Of course you could alternatively modify the template files and eliminate those image calls from there - which however would make you more work.

Are you using any firewall software, such as Norton or McAffe? What version of Windows are you using? What version of Internet Explorer?
Perhaps we can get this issue fixed; I wasn't aware there was any problem, outside of that caused by Norton Internet Security.

I have Zone Alarm installed but right now is disabled so I don't think that's the problem. Im running Windows ME and IE 6.0.

Just uploaded a patch containing these missing images and those which were reported in the german language support forums. The patch can be applied to all colors of the Aquamania Dark theme series. Applying the patch might speed up the loading time of your forum.

Hello, I wanted to report this to see if it is actually a bug or not, and if it isn't maybe somebody can help me figure it out. I have installed SMF 1.0 RC1 and applied an Aquamania theme and ever since I've done that the HELP button keeps pointing to the help file in the default theme folder (/Themes/default/help/index.italian.html) as opposed to the help file in the new theme's folder (/Themes/Aquamania/help/index.italian.html). Because I am not familiar with the internal structure of SMF I am not sure if this might be an SMF bug or possibly an Aquamania bug but I thought I'd let you know about it.
To be honest - I simply did not care yet about the help files when creating themes. I think the help files are not yet finished and suppose if they are then the help files will automatically use the current theme for the layout.
If you copy the help files to the theme's folder, it'll use them there.

I've read Unkown's solution but I am confused because if I click on the HELP button the browser tries to go to: /Themes/default/help/index.italian.html
Since there are no italian help files in the italian language pack distribution, what am I supposed to copy in the default themes folder?

If index.italian.html does not exist then copy index.english.html and rename it to index.italian.html. Case more files look like missing copy them to.

You can always put links to the available languages in the help pages until you don't have all the languages (the help pages have a different graphic aspect anyway, you might as well escape the rule just for the help files)...

My sets contain all buttons for popular mods - if I remember right it is more than 70 buttons. In addition blank buttons of every style are contained such that (and for the sole purpose) that you could create an additonal extra button case still an extra button is missing for a special mod of yours.
What you are not permitted is: modifying the button set color, removing my copyright note etc. Case you need further help in using the theme or understanding the license I will be happy to assist you.

The files are directly attached to the posts of the download thread. Make sure you are logged in - only then you have access to the files.
It is planned that a graphics download are is set up - when this has come into being the files will be moved there...

Look I have posted around 200 button sets for the Aquamania Themes. Somehow it would be crazy work to make 200 "markunread.gif" files. And i cannot help it but am afraid that as soon I would have posted these 5 minutes later a new button were introduced. :P
I think about posting an rc2 upgrade package which goes for all colors and all languages, containing an icon (without text) for markunread.gif.

not 100% sure
The easiest is if you make your own gif and call it "smflogo.gif". Upload this into the themes "images" folder. Eventually change the images dimension in "index.template.php".
P.S.
FYI: I will merge this thread later into the Aquamania Themes thread.

I just installed SMF and am trying to change its look. I know I want it to have a red style. So when I saw the Aquamania Dark Red01 theme I was happy, because it is the exact thing I am looking for.
I installed it, and it looks great. The only thing that is messed up, is when you go to a post, you see that missing image symbol that says it cannot find markunread.gif
I am assuming that this is because RC1 didn't have a Mark Unread Button and RC2 does.
Is there anyway I can downgrade that one part of my SM Forum, so it won't look for a markunread.gif
Or is there an update to that theme which has this button?
Getting that fixed would just be so easier than me trying from scratch to make a Red Theme, I know mine would look lousy.
I believe Andrea plans to update them soon.... but I'm not sure. You can remove the markunread.gif from the Display template, as well...

Started to upload the RC2 Update packages. I suppose everybody agrees that repacking all 200 language button packages is nice to have but makes a little much work - so I will upload one archive for each color which contains the markunread button which was added to the basic buttons for *all* languages. This new archive will also contain the RC1 patch. So you have only to install the basic theme files and this RC2 update package to go for RC2 or 1.0 pre (or final then when this version is out).
That means the archives will have a structure like this:
amdblue01
amdblue01/images/bbc
amdblue01/images/icons
amdblue01/images/markunread-all-languages
Unpack the archive on your local disk, you will have the above folder structure.
The subfolders images/bbc and images/icons are to be uploaded normally into the appropriate theme directory.
Pick the markunread button for your installed language, upload it into the appropriate language folder and rename the file to "markunread.gif".
The update packages are now uploaded for all languages - Merry Xmas to everybody.

I used the Green 01 by default on my forum.
For french people, I put a "par" instead of "by" in the copyright note of Andrea, and I add copyright note for my own association.
Is there an update for final version, because I don't have seen icon for "last message".
To try, I add the icon of the defaut theme for SMF, but there is nothing new on my forum. Perhaps I must edite a template?

Ok, so here's my problem... I've tried downloading the file with no luck. There is no file for me to unzip after it downloads. It's a single file that can't be opened. So therefore I don't have anything to upload to my host. I'm using IE6 with Win 98, I don't have any firewalls. I also tried right clicking and 'save target as'. And I had the same results.
Any help would be appricated!! :)

Your question isn't silly - I just had not found yet to work out the code you need to change. The lastpost icon has been added from rc2 to final - since my theme was done before final it does not yet contain the code for this icon. It goes to the last unread post of the thread instead.

Which language did you install?
The MSN button might be missing in some nonlatin language packs since it stays untranslated in some languages. If so then simply take it from the english button directory which is included in the main theme package.
The 'markunread.gif' button is in this update package:

i downloaded the rc2 update for bluegreen 01, but im having problems with the file.
never mind, the problem for some odd reason was i couldnt open the file cause it was "read-only"...weird but fixed

I need to know what is going wrong. When I dload amdred01 it saves itself as a file titled index. I downloaded a new program to expand tar.gz files.. and once expanded it's a file titled content. There isn't a folder or a selection of files to upload as a theme. What am I doing wrong? Are these themes available as zip files? I have always had problems attempting to use tar.gz files.

I've looked and cannot find any file for copyright in the folder the theme came in.. so the information must be missing.

I took action on a hunch.. the fact that I'd done an update to the latest version of SMF, yet the language directory was still calling itself RC2. I deleted all the foreign language files/folders (it's a private forum for a class reunion organization.) and then did a reinstall of the theme. It worked! Huzzah! :) I don't feel quite the twit that I felt all afternoon.
Now if I can only resolve one little problem. I'd like for the members to be able to include a paragraph about themselves. The personal text field seems ideal.. but it only allows for a sentence. The parameters we're allowed to increase do allow for more text.. but at the expense of lengthening the table. It only allows one line.. you see the problem? :) Is there a way of editing any of the pertinent files (and if so, which ones and what code?) to either allow a multiple line box for personal text, or to replace one of the fields in the left side of the profile table to make room for a multiple line text box for an "about me" or "bio" field.

I loaded and started to use the amdgreen02 theme for a new site.
I have found that there are several broken images in that theme.

The theme is great. Had to increase some of the fonts sizes though since they were too small for many of the users.

Install this update package and copy the portuguese markunread button into the right folder:

The button is named "markunread_portuguese.gif" in the update package. Make sure you rename it to "markunread.gif" on the server and copy it into the portuguese language folder. There are also some other update files in the packages which you can upload into the theme folder.

I saw a post that said "In Theme and Layout Settings"...but I wasn't sure that was the answer and besides, I have no idea where "Theme and Layout Settings" is.

The leading today Windows Zip programs are able to unpack tar.gz files. Therefore "tar.gz" format is today so to say a common Windows format. Look here for more details:

Make sure you download the full theme file and not only a button language file...

Have you seen that the archives contain a blank buttons of every size? With this you can create single extra buttons to the sets. For the font use Helvetica or Arial.
Andrea, I absolutely suck with graphics, and with my eyesight, and the publicity this site is getting, there is no chance that I want to risk even a minor kludgeup.

@GPassion: the button set contains in all languages a "home.gif" and "forum.gif" which are supposed to be used for that. Otherwise it containes blank torso buttons of every style which are for the making of single extra buttons, for the font use Helvetica or Arial.

I think the amdgreenblue01 is the only Aquamania theme left without a greek lanquage button set. There is even a mark_unread button in greek lanquage in the patch but no set for the theme.
Is it my fault not finding it?
Alright, I love these themes! But I have a question. When I upload the themes to my forums, it just comes up with an odd name on the list. For example: it will say on the list amdyellowgreen or whatever. If possible, I would like it to say Yellow Green. Is this possible???

I am using your Aqua Blue and Aqua Black Themes. I downloaded the marks as unread button pathces you made to update them.
I placed them in the folders they belong in bbc, icons, even made a new folder for "markasunread-all-languages" and uploaded all those files.
But when I go back to my board and I go into a topic, the mark as unread button is still showing up as a red x like there is no button for it.
What am I doing wrong. Thanks for your help. My members love those themes of yours. YOU ROCK!!!!!!!
The markunread files come with a format markunread_language.gif (where language english, french etc.) for identification purposes.
They have to be uploaded in the appropriate ../theme/images/language subdirectory. After that rename the file to markunread.gif.
If the files are uploaded correctly only rename is needed.
This is a great theme the blue is just right but I need to add some orange maybe orange any suggestons how I could do this (as my site is Royal Blue and orange)

Am I understanding right you're trying to install a SMF-theme through the Administration Panel of Mambo? You should use the Admin section in your forum, go to
Theme and Layout Settings and install a new theme.

That is because it is a SMF theme and not a Mambo template/module/mosbot. Mambo and SMF are two seperate parties. Please forget Mambo and think only SMF as long as where talking about installing a theme. You
don't need your Mambo Administration to upload a SMF theme. Log in on your site, go to your forum, click the
Admin-button and proceed to

Which patch? And do you have a link of your site?
Does the SMF theme need something additional to work with Mambo? Or will Mambo recognize the SMF theme anyways?
And again @prks: please post a link!
IMO you can't think as Mambo and SMF as one system. It's still two systems with seperate administrations, the bridge only handles registration and loginprotocol for both Mambo and SMF by sniffing in both databases.
I don't believe this or any theme requires any layout-modification to fit with Mambo, but that is also depending on the Mambo template on which it is used. Themeinstallation does defenitely work from SMF's administration using the bridge.
@prks, you need to see that you have two administrations to take care of: your Mambo Administration to install all your Mambostuff like modules, Mambotemplates, components and your SMF Administration to maintain your forum, like installing themes, mods for SMF and anything you find on this forum. It simply can't be done only from Mambo. If you want to make modifications to your forum you should completely forget about Mambo and just focus on SMF.

Just a note of Thanks for the Aqua Blue Green theme that I am happily using. Very easy on the eye and proving popular on our wee groups forum. One question though. The copyright info at the bottom has a link to Simple Machines & Lewis Media, but the theme maker has only an unlinked name ??? (seems to be normal practice from what I have seen). I would think that a link to the Themes author web site or even a guest book would be in order.
Anyway, just my thoughts. Very good theme, well done and Thanks again Andrea (wish some of this PHP stuff would filter through to my wee brain though) ;)

Hi, I'm having issues installing this theme. I just switched to SMF and I tried to allow the server to upload amdred01-rc2-update.tar.gz which seemed to upload fine. But then when I preview it, there are no images whatsoever. I grabbed RC1 and uploaded the images, so some of the buttons work now, but the theme is still missing for hte most part...
Any ideas?

Ok, I've installed Simple Portal from NesianDev, and I need to add a button for "Forum" to my menu, and the graphic already exists for the theme. I've gone thru every "add button" thread here I could find, but all of them, no matter what code I add to index.template.php, gives me this error:

Unfortunately they don't, I don't believe. I made one by cuting and pasting parts of other buttons from the set. I have one for amdgreen02 I can send you. Also made one for Personal Messages. Lemme know.
The RC2 update includes the Mark unread button!
Are there any plans to get these themes upgraded to 1.0.5, including version numbers? I'm not talking about patches, just actual upgrades.

Yes. I did it with no problems. You must extract the files to a folder either locally & then upload them to or extract onto your server in a new folder (use their theme name for the new folder) under the themes folder.
Then, via the Admin section, click on "Theme and Layout Settings" then at the bottom, under "Install a New Theme" enter the folder name where your new them is at and click on "Install." That should do it.
Let us know if this works for you. :)

I am opening up my forum in a framed html page, and I am getting a scroll bar on the bottom, that doesn't need to be there....any idea why? When I was using the deault SMF skin this didn't happen?

The theme isn't compatible with the latest versions of SMF that's why there are some missing images ;)

I downloaded the patch containing that button, but it still doens't work. Maybe I installed it in the wrong folder or something.

The "AquaMania Dark" Theme series is a set of dark aqua style themes in various color schemes. The buttons are available in many languages (currently 21). And... I do have some constructive criticism about how they are presented.
What the heck is going on with all the cross linked threads? I now have 5 windows open that all look the same, all talking about the same thing. Very confusing. This is a forum don't.
The Fix: One thread for the 10 themes. All directions, latest downloads and thumbs in the first post which can be edited and updated as needed. Discussion can follow in later posts in the same thread.

They work almost fine here.
I had to copy two icons from the standard theme (package_installed.gif, package_old.gif) to the corresponding icon folder of this theme.
And I get a

I have tried using these themes, and they are very nice! I have one small problem.....
There seems to be an image missing for all of them: "Mark Unread" ... there is not an image for this particular button......I have tried almost every style for these and none of them load the image for this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can find the mark-unread-button in the RC2-files linked at the end of this thread: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=10475.0
You just have to rename markunread_german.gif (or whatever your language is) to markunread.gif and copy it to where the other buttons are.

Yeah I get the "8: Undefined index: topbottomEnable" error also. Like you said it doesn't seem to cause an error but it worries me.

Love the theme but when using it my spell check doesn't work because the text area is all blue.
Anyway to fix that?

i installed the theme, replaced some missing buttons from the defalt theme (about 5...)
but the main problem i have is that the 'mark read' button doesnt work, so i pasted the BoardIndex.template.php in from the default theme and everything seems to be working correctly, i did notice that the default file was bigger than the one you included with the theme, will this cause any problems with the board? seemed like alot of extra code to me (and may be the reason i was missing 5 icons)

How is it not working for you? It worked for me mostly even though there is a version mismatch. Its just made installing mods and hacks a bit of a pain.
Any word on if this theme is gonna be updated for 1.1RC1? Or are you waiting on a final version of the system for updates?

I think your Aquamania Skins are amazing! I've just tried to give my forum the Cyan theme and it worked to a large extent but I've clearly messed up somewhere along the way - it's lost the 3D effect it had before and where it once had the Simple Machines icon next to the post, it now reads 'no new posts'. Should warn you I'm very new to this so it's probably some really obvious mistake I've made. I had to upload all the files separately and I've gone over them again and don't SEEM to have missed any but it's the only explanation I can come up with. Does anyone know what I might have done wrong?

Hi I need some help installing amdblue, Firstly im not even sure ive downloaded the right file from the list (2nd one down I was doing) then when i try to install all i get is this - That theme directory doesn't exist, or doesn't contain a theme!

They will be OK up to 1.05, probably 1.06. Might work with 1.1 RC1 and RC2 with some changes.

You have errors because this theme isnt compactible with your 1.1 RC1. This is old theme for 1.0 RC1. Developer of this theme isnt anymore active in this forum.
Owdy is it allowed to someone else except Andrea modify these themes for 1.1 without affecting the general layout colors etc.?
And what is more important, is it allowed to someone else upload the modified themes here so others can use them with newer versions?

I've changed the smflogo.gif to my website's logo and would now like to add a hyperlink to the gif pointing back to the home page of my website. How do i do this?
Also is it possible to change it so that hyperlinks are underlined (normal web protocol) to make them obvious that they are links?

These are themes for 1.0x, you are probably using SMF 1.1 RC2. Some changes are required, the issue you report needs a change in style.css. I'm using version 1.07 of SMF. The dark yellow theme, doesn't seem to have an "announcement checkbox" under the additional options section, when you make a new post.
As adding this wouldn't alter the graphics, can someone tell me how to do this / where to find the file i need to change?

This theme has been made for 1.0 RC1, so it is quite old.
However, from what I can remember, it's a "straight" theme, I mean all the graphics information is in index.template.php, style.css and in graphic files. I believe that the other template files were the same as the standard 1.0 RC1 for default theme.
This means that you can use the new files from 1.07. By FTP go to the theme's directory and rename post.template.php to something different i.e. post_ud.template.php. This will force the use of the corresponding file from default theme (ver. 1.07). I don' t know about any "announcement checkbox" under the additional options section, when you make a new post, however that that might give you what you want. Do you have such an option with default theme? If not try to explain what you want to do.
Moreover, using the same technique you can disable the other template files except index.template.php. Do that in single steps, so you can reverse a step by restoring the proper filename. Check well for unwanted differences before going to next step.
Sorry, you are right, announcement option is in the first message of the topic only. I don' t use it so I had forgotten it's existance :D
Renaming the post.template.php as referred will make it appear.

I did as you suggested and renamed the theme's post.template to force it to find the default one.
This worked, and the "announce post" text appeared, but the formating was mucked up a bit.
So i went into the default post.template and found the correct coding for the "announce post" checkbox and copied it into my theme's post.template!

The aquamania skins were developed originally for an older version of the software which didn't have the "mark unread option"

This theme doesn't come with a Display.template.php so by default it reads the one in the Default folder. So just make a copy of the one in the Default folder and put it in this themes folder and edit it accordingly.

and I edited the line as I read in another topic
then I re-uploaded the file

Yes, please update this theme to 1.1.2. This theme really is the best, but it has some problems with 1.1.x..
(my most annoying problem is that the calender doesn't show the months anymore, does anybody knows a fix for that?)
