Title: Joomla with SMF in subdomain
Post by: darinraysmith on June 02, 2008, 10:46:12 PM
Firstly, I apologize if this has been addressed:

I'd like to install SMF in a subdomain of my site.  My question is:

If I install SMF in forum.site.com how do I link it to my main joomla user database?  I'm mainly concerned with having users register only once.   I'd like to mainly manage user preferences in my Joomla site, but have them only register once.  Is this the famous unsupported bridge problem?  I've not done nearly enough reading to know how I can accomplish this, but I'd like to avoid hours of frustration with minutes of "look here." if that's indeed the case.

It's my hope that my users can register at the main page and then have the user info available in SMF

1 login is a good thing.

I just don't want to reinvent the wheel, but am really not thrilled with running a forum within my joomla installation.  I've been less than happy with the results I have achieved thus far.

all help is appreciated

thanks,
drs

the user integration is the main part of the bridge...   which is no longer supported.

If you want one sign-on, I suggest checking out mambo or one of the other CMS bridges that work with SMF.
