Title: Member list / Profile Viewing / Email
Post by: Filipina on July 25, 2008, 04:07:41 PM
I had a member inform me he is getting emails from "visitors" to our site  Huh, I said?  I have the 2.0 beta version, and sure enough he was right.  It seems if you give visitors premission to "view profiles" OR the "memberlist" (either one) then they can just click the email icon to send email to members.  Am I missing something, or is that how 2.0 is designed to work?  :o

thanks for any feeback  ;D

p.s. i tried to search this topic but maybe I am not a good searcher  ;)

That is what it is designed to do.  If the member doesn't want to receive email tell them to hide it in their profile under account related settings.

I'm just a newbie at SMF, but why don't you just lock guests out of viewing profiles and viewing the member list? And also, you should probably check "Do not reveal contact details of members to guests" and uncheck "Allow viewable email addresses" in Configuration > Security & Moderation > General.

AdminCP->Security and Moderation->General=>
Do not reveal contact details of members to guests
Allow viewable email addresses.

Now users have to manage their public display of their e-mail address.
