A friend has done a front page for my forum now when I log in I am getting and this error report.......

The requested URL /index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I am new to all this and to be honest I am in bits incase he has lost me my forum...which is still in maintenence mode.

Check to make sure index.php is still in the root of your site (or wherever it is for SMF).

If it is, then check to see if there are any other index files such as index.html or Default.asp etc... If there is, temporarily rename it to indexb or Defaultb.

This could also be a mod_security issue
