My MODs (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?action=profile;u=148997)

With this MOD you can add a nice effect of reflection at all Avatars, automatically, without making changes in the images and without adding more work to the server.

Thanks and Credits authorship of reflection.js 2.0 to: cow.neondragon.net (read licence.txt)

Compatibility:
- Internet Explorer 5.5+
- Mozilla Firefox 1.5+
- Opera 9+
- Safari
- Google Chrome

On older browsers, it'll degrade and your visitors won't notice a thing. Best of all, it's under 5KB.

==========================

- Internet Explorer 5.5+

OK I give up.

I installed it and no reflection. What do i have to do to get the reflections? It doesn't work under FF 3.0.1 under Ubuntu Linux or Windows Vista running FF.

So it just "works" with no permission settings or check boxes to check? I've tried it on two different computers and no-go.

Hi.

The MOD is very simple. It installs and runs. There is nothing to configure.

I hope you like it.

not working for me either...  FF3.

I use FF 3.01 under Windows and work for me.

The reflection is done with JS, so if it does not work is perhaps due to clash with another JS its Web (or even advertising host).

The JS is not made by me, is cow.neondragon.net.

There you will see from which browsers works (Internet Explorer 5.5+, Mozilla Firefox 1.5+, Opera 9+ and Safari), and can download the latest version, whenever they want. (now v1.9 is included in the package).

Thanks for trying out the MOD, and most grateful if they liked.

If they have doubts and problems, alert and try to help.

Well I am on a computer that is using FF 3.01 and Vista and it doesn't work on my forum. So unless you can give me some ideas on what to do or what files to modify, I'll have to uninstall it.

First is to find the cause, Is the browser? Does the browser+OS? Do other JS?

...Can you give the URL of your forum?

I think there is a slight language barrier going on here, I don't know what "Do other JS?" means.

I wanted to see if you had installed the MOD.

If the MOD was installed, wanted to see if I could see the reflection.

If I could see the reflection (Cause = Browser + OS)

If I could not see the reflection (Cause = other scripts js)

Edit: Did you test with another browser? with another OS?

I added this last week from the original site, and had problems with my gif images returning a blue reflection(other formats are fine), and the avatars being resized back to their original dimensions, canceling the forum settings.
This does not correct those issues.
Do you have any idea how to remedy these 2 actions?
Thank You in advance :)

Yes I did, I already said that though. I tested with two different computers - one windows and FF 3.01 and the other with Ubuntu Linux with FF 3.01. Neither shows a reflection, and there are no problems with my forum that I'm aware of, but I am using nneonneo's shoutbox (which is working fine).

Ok, i have no doubt, isn't the browser, isn't the OS. It is a script on your site.

Some of the script that is already working, must be collisions with reflejct.js.

For example, the following case:

Quote from: BOS4O on September 16, 2008, 03:56:13 AM
it works with the default template but the Aa new damage no

Try deleting: onload = "PreloadFlag = true;" I think will work.

I'd love to try that if you would please be more specific as to where that is located. I have no idea where to find that line of code. Please specify the filename where it is located.

Excuse me, that recommendation was for BOS4O, in the theme Aa new damage, the file index.template.php XD.

In your case, let me investigate a little to find the cause (the script). (http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/9196/upvc8.gif)

Edit:

The cause of the fault seems to me this (index.template.php, I suppose):

   window.onload=function(){loadChat();};

Try deleting

If removing it works, then ... I will seek an alternative
Title: Re: Reflection Avatar
Post by: Ryan on September 16, 2008, 04:49:34 PM
Yes conflict with ajax shoutbox...
window.onload=function(){loadChat();LOADREFLECTION()};

Somone needs to find out what the other onload statement is.. and needs to add it together..

Thats my theory.. i think the creator of the mod will use this idea and give you fix soon.

True, there is a pattern.

When there is another statement onload, missed the first declared (Reflect).

--

So you can try this:

1 .- Clear one of the two.

2 .- put together (as M3THOD say)

In the latter case, you can try to put together well:

   window.onload=function(){ loadChat(); if(previousOnload) previousOnload(); addReflections(); };

Green: Other MODs (in this case: nneonneo)
Blue: MOD Reflect

Si, al fin alguien XD.

Es bastante simple, solo debes abrir el index.template.php de tu theme y buscar:

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="', $settings['default_theme_url'], '/script.js?fin11"></script>

Y le añades:

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="', $settings['default_theme_url'], '/reflection.js?fin11"></script>

No problem.

Search in index.template.php:

   window.onload=function(){loadChat();};

Replace with:

window.onload=function(){ loadChat(); if(previousOnload) previousOnload(); addReflections(); };

Is because avatars are very large and because IE bet XD

Solutions:
1 .- Reduce the size of avatars.
Or
2 .- Edit the style.css and add to final .avatar { overflow: hidden; }

O:)

URL?

Some of these ways:

1.-  Search in index.template.php:

   window.onload=function(){loadChat();};

(or similar)

Replace with:

window.onload=function(){ loadChat(); if(previousOnload) previousOnload(); addReflections(); };

2.-  Search:

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="', $settings['default_theme_url'], '/reflection.js?fin11"></script>

Move to, before:

</head>

Example:

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="', $settings['default_theme_url'], '/reflection.js?fin11"></script>
</head>

Hi

Is very easy

You must edit the "index.template.php"

Find

</head>

and put before

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="', $settings['default_theme_url'], '/reflection.js?fin11"></script>

or in SMf beta 2

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="', $settings['default_theme_url'], '/scripts/reflection.js?b4"></script>

Looks great - I will try it live as soon as I install SMF again. :) Suggestion - there should be an option available to the users to disable the reflection.

So far i know, is "problem" of the browsers, not the script.

i've tried to install this, but it installs straight to the default theme, and i'm using a custom one. what do i need to edit in my theme to get this to work?

Hi

Is very easy

You must edit the "index.template.php"

Find

</head>

and put before

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="', $settings['default_theme_url'], '/reflection.js?fin11"></script>

or in SMf beta 2

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="', $settings['default_theme_url'], '/scripts/reflection.js?b4"></script>

Never worked for me, I'm using MysticOpal and I don't have any other java problems or java based mods installed. Any ideas?

Hi.

Edit your style.css

Search:

.avatar { overflow: hidden; }

Replace:

.avatar { overflow: hidden; margin: auto }

Important: Save and Refresh your Browser with Ctrl+F5 (clear your browser cache) before you will be able to see the changes.

O:)

Worked like a charm, I did all the edits except in the style.css

Edit: I noticed that the new package doesn't include the added margin:auto in the style.css

Oh, funny, just found out about this other mod of yours, M-DVD... ;)

I actually first saw reflection.js being used on another board (passion-xbmc.org), and thought they'd installed it manually. Maybe they used your mod, I'm not sure...
I installed the thing manually and it didn't work under Opera. I modified reflection.js to relocate the created canvas's paddingTop to (divHeight-reflectionHeight)+'px' and then it worked. Just so you know... There may be themes where reflections appear right beneath the avatar (behind it), instead of below it. I think it's because reflection.js expects the image's div container to not have specific sizes.

My goal was to make my user info appear on top of the reflection, I made it work but it wasn't too readable, and changing the reflection's alpha to something lighter wouldn't look too good, so I gave up for now. I may work on it again in the future though. If I have some spare time :)

Oh, thank you.

If you find flaws or improvements, you can contact the author of reflect.js, sure you appreciate.

Also, I will be careful of what you say it can occur in some themes.

I have also been working a bit with this code, especially to change the DIV, and change that 'Image with Reflection', for an not element block, but I have not had time.

Sorry, i haven't much idea.

You can edit the file PersonalMessage.template.php, find the variable of the avatar and put some <br /> after or before, depending. Thing is, try and test. It is everything that I can think of.

And that template of PM is different, I have never seen anything like this.  :)

Ok, because there is no reflection here XD

1 .- Because all themes not show the avatar here.
2 .- Because it wasn't looked good in default theme.

If you want to add this, then do this change:

Edit he Subs.php

Search:

if (!empty($context['user']['avatar']))
$context['user']['avatar']['image'] = '<img src="' . $context['user']['avatar']['href'] . '"' . (isset($context['user']['avatar']['width']) ? ' width="' . $context['user']['avatar']['width'] . '"' : '') . (isset($context['user']['avatar']['height']) ? ' height="' . $context['user']['avatar']['height'] . '"' : '') . ' alt="" class="avatar" border="0" />';

Replace:

if (!empty($context['user']['avatar']))
$context['user']['avatar']['image'] = '<img src="' . $context['user']['avatar']['href'] . '"' . (isset($context['user']['avatar']['width']) ? ' width="' . $context['user']['avatar']['width'] . '"' : '') . (isset($context['user']['avatar']['height']) ? ' height="' . $context['user']['avatar']['height'] . '"' : '') . ' alt="" class="avatar reflect" border="0" />';

Note: In the next version, i will add this feature as: enable/disable. The current reflect also will be enable/disable.

Question.

Whenever I install this mod, my avatars align left in other mods when I view them in Firefox.  Is there something that I can add to your code in order to get things centered again?  It's just the avatar that aligns left instead of staying center.

It effects my Simple Portal User Block, the Dynamic Memberlist Block, and also inside the profile info that gets displayed in a post.

The reflect.js is compatible with IE, and the error you mention, it seems problem your browser's.

Maybe your site has many javascript. The reflect.js is the last thing it will be loaded, then the warning "Stack Overflow" will be showed with this script.

In addition, is possible you may have installed in your browser many plugings, toolbars, and perhaps, even malware and you don't know.

Anyway, doesn't look problem reflect's script. :)

Amazing.  I'm using a custom theme.  I just followed your 2 changes from other comments:

- Add a javascript line before </head> in index.template file.
- Added the style thing to avoid scroll bars for the reflections for IE.

Great job!!!

Replace with:

class="avatar reflect"

Everything else is the same.
