I've been trying to add smilie sets...but I keep getting this error:

I wish I could help, but I'm clueless, sorry. However, I feel your pain, if that helps (!). :P I do recall that when you add smileys, you have to add them to all your sets at the same time so that all the sets are balanced.
More info, maybe, for the techs: are you adding them with the Smiley manager via the Admin pages?

On the plus side....I added 100 avatars I spent making last night.......
and now I can't seem to install themes. *cries more*
Have you tried fixing the errors through forum maintenance? Admin >> Forum Maintenance >> Fix errors (http://www.roleplayuniverse.com/forums/index.php?action=repairboards)

Nope......
There is no need to "import" the single smileys. Just "add" the new smiley set and you are done.
That means leave the option "Import smileys already in this directory" *unchecked* when you add a new smiley set.
That's what I've been doing....*exactly* what I've been doing and I still get that error...
and since upgrading, I can't seem to install themes either.

It was something UNKNOWN said...
I had been trying to install smileys that you made...(Love hamsters btw!)
and had tried that guy Jason's.....
and his were titled Jason's Smileys...
I had renamed them jasonsmilies
I even managed to install one set...
once I -uninstalled- it...
I was able to install the other non-Jason smilies
