Everytime I attempt to make a backup from SMF I get an page not found error.
I am still able to make good backups from teh database.
Anyone else have this problem? Any good fixes or reasons why this may happen?
The backup tool, on some servers, may not be able to work with larger databases.

try making your backup using Unknown's create_backup.php which can be found here; http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=18350.msg168327#msg168327
worked a gem for me.
It worked fine for the first week I had the board up then just didn't want to go anymore.
Is there a way to change servers settings to allow it to function?

Does it work any better or worse if you enable or disable compressed output? How about if you check or uncheck "Compress the file with gzip."?

Works fine if I don't "Compress the file with gzip". If I try it with the Gzip I get the page error.
Would you be willing to post a link to a phpinfo? What is phpinfo.php? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=18250.0)
Do you have compressed output on or off? If you don't know, you can find out under "Edit Features and Options".

I'll set up the link when I have a little bit more time.
But there is no difference in whether compression is on or off. Both ways give me a page error
