Hello-
I've been searching here for awhile, and can't find what I'm looking for.
I want to restructure the top part of the index.template.php page and am having no luck. I've trial and errored it to death, and finally give up.
Here is what I'm trying to accomplish
I've added a custom header. That is where the success ends. After that, I want the following, in order:
1. The news box, by itself, the entire width of the forum.
2. A second box in the template style, with two colums. The left column with the "welcome guest" at the top, and the "login or register" box on the bottom. The right colum would have a javascript banner thing. The columns would be invisible - that is, no vertical line between.
3. The row of menu buttons, with the search box on the same line to the right.
I must have copied and pasted every line there and moved it around, and about know the parse error message by heart. But still, I can't get it to do what I want.
In case it makes a difference, the theme I'm hacking away at is one of Andrea's aquamarine themes.
Help?
I'm assuming the changes I want to make apply to the way SimpleMachines is written, and not just templates.
Am I mistaken about this? Should I have posted this question in the template section?
Is this just such an incredibly stupid question that nobody wants to waste their typing to answer?
If this is one of those questions that has been asked a million times, would somebody at least post a link to one of the times it has been answered?
thanks
I've made kind of the same changes you're talking about in the BoardIndex.template.php file in the Templates folder... you may try looking in there...
woo hoo!
Thanks bd. I'll see what happens.
Everything you need to modify is in Themes/default/index.template.php
Let me make sure I understand what you want before I post how to make the changes (lots of code involved here)...
1. News box entire width of the forum.
2. On the next line, the "user info" box with two columns - one for the actual info and one for a banner, no "key stats" box
3. The "search" bar right next to the menu
It's relatively easy to do, but it involves moving a lot of code around, so I don't want to post something before I understand exactly what you want.
Hey oldies man!
Here is a (very) rough illustration of what I am hoping to accomplish:
|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|

Oldiesmann? Are you still out there?
Dsdc,
do you need something like this? This is just slapped up on my own test board - it's based on the default template. I can zap you the template & css files if you'd like to play with it to adapt to your own layout.

I'm still here. I'll play around with index.template.php in a bit and let you know how to do that.
Hey Helen-
I can't tell from your example if the news runs the full width, but if it does, then your example is exactly what I'm talking about.
Thanks!
dsdc, yep, the News runs the full width of the page.
I sent you the files via PM, you can play with it to your heart's content. :)

Helen-
It works perfectly. Thank you for your help!
