I`ve just installed SMF this evening, after spending over a year with IPB. Finding it a little difficult getting to grips with something that is very different to IPB!!
I`m struggling to grasp the member groups and permissions. So in the meantime, until I can get things right I have created a test account with one of my spare email addresses. The registration went through without a problem. Reason, I want to use a member account so I can make sure members do not see or cannot use things they are not supposed to!
I wanted to setup up one further test account, obviously under another name, and with a different email. I registered, but when submitting, I got the error `You are not allowed to access this section `.
Does SMF log IP#`s and deny duplicate entries? or is this something else? Also, is there a tutorial for SMF, especially the permissions and groups? I hate the keep asking questions that have already been asked a million times!!

No, it's not an IP check. It's just noticed that you've attempted to register two different accounts, and that's bad :P. I suggest you do it, instead, from the admin center.
We're working on tutorials currently. What are you trying to work out as far as groups and permissions?

Yeah, I`m just trying to get my head around setting permissions. I guess I`ve got too accustomed to IPB.
I`ll be running a basic forum for now, with just me as the admin/super moderator. Naturally I need fully admin powers.
The only other is the members, who I would like to see have the usual forum permissions (start new threads, posts, edit their own posts etc). To get these set, do I have to edit each group individually, or can I set them with just a couple of clicks?
Also, what`s the difference betweem disallow and deny?

From what I read, you would probably never want to use deny since it could effect a whole group:
"Remember that if you deny a permission, any member - whether moderator or otherwise - that is in that group will be denied that as well. For this reason, you should use deny carefully, only when
necessary. Disallow, on the other hand, denies unless otherwise granted.
