There are many websites where to get better smileys. mmm eg Here (http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/silk/) ;)
Nice mod. Looks much better, and it's easier to use. Should be made a feature of SMF by default.
Good mod.
Still enjoying this mod, just installed on another site.
This is how all my post templates will be set now.
Thank You :)
@ klra
You can add more icons via Smileys and Message Icons >> Settings
Select Enable customized message icons: then click on Edit Message Icons.
You can add or remove new icons there.
I use smilies etc as I have over 700 on an external hard lol Yeah.. I like smilies lol
Hope that helped if you didnt know :)

Thanks for this mod :)
I installed this mod and it worked great.
But then I updated to 1.1.7 and it only displays the standard icon like this -

I unistalled the mod, then reinstalled it and it remains as it is above.
Any suggestions?

1 .- When you uninstall the MOD, is it looks good? Are all?
2 .- Try one of the newer versions.
3 .- Attachment the Post.template.php, might help.
I uninstalled the mod and reinstalled 1.1b and it still is displaying only one message icon.
attached is my Post.template.php file.
Thanks -
1.- When you uninstall the MOD, is it looks good? Are all?
2.- The problem is not caused by the MOD (the MOD work fine in 1.1.X and SMF 2 b3&4.)
3.- Post.template.php checked and is correct, I not found problem there, sorry.
No, it's still showing only one message icon as displayed in the image above.
Not sure what to do -
Thank you for this good mod M-DVD,

I just checked- good catch!
I unchecked "use custom message icons" and my message icon list reappeared.
Sorry for the mix up & thanks!
Glad youve sorted it out.
Enjoy :)
Firstly, your mod seemed very useful for me.
Secondly, i see the drop down bar in my classic theme instead of that getting disappeared, but i do see the message icons affected by this mod.
So what shall be the solution to get rid of the drop down in there ?

1.- Thanks you :D
2.- Is it replaces the "old style" by the "new style"?
Does it replaces, but then the icon that you choose isn't set in the post?
It does everything properly, its only that the old style drop down is still there, but no message icons shown in the drop down. (i dont want the drop down as i have the new style :))
Its like an empty form but nothing in drop down.
Ok, now i understand.
If you like, attach your post.template

Yes, the changelog you can see in this post:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=266723.msg1819423#msg1819423
And, in this post you can see which version of SMF is compatible
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=266723.msg1741557#msg1741557
Ie, since the first version (MOD), it works for all the versions (SMF) :)
I tried to install this one but I get an error message. Can you help? I would really like to have this one. This is the message I get:
Sure, no problem.
What version (SMF and MOD) are you using?
And if you want, you can attach this file to make the change. :)
Thanks!! I am using SMF 1.1.8 and the file I attempted to install is NewStyleMessageIcon_v1_1b.zip and I will attach the Post.template.php file. hope this works because I really do like the way this mod looks.
Mod installed great M-DVD! But where can I change the color of *Message icon:* in the post view? The color of the text is to dark for my theme. I have the B ver. of the mod installed. Thanks!

No problem.
Edit the file
style.css in your theme, and add at the end. (example)
#newstyleMI { color: white }
And do a hard refresh. Tell me how worked. :)
#newstyleMI { color: white }
No change with that. I even changed the white to #FFFFFF. Still a no go!
Thank you!!!! It works perfectly!! All those cute little icons are right across the top with a thin black box around them!! I really appreciate the help... and thank you again!!!!
I did not install the mod... I just uploaded the new file - why did it work without me installing it? Did you just change the file? I did have to remove the line from the style file because it made the text white and not visible on my board. Actually, I just change the color to black.

The MOD works because I made the installation manual in the file.
If you want, you can install the mod (will show error in that file, but not problem, the installation will not modify that file, and already has been changed).
Also, you can put the color that is right in your theme.
Thanks! Will just leave it as it is... if it's working, that's cool. I don't like messing with the files. Thanks again, it's a nice mod!! Now I need to find some better icons!
You can found many icons in this web (http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/silk/) (for example).
There are many websites, but now i don't remember :)
Thanks!! I'll check them out. I already found some I like but am always ready for more!!
Would it be possible to make the row of icons "hidden" when replying to posts? It's not useable at that time anyway. Just have them when someone starts a new message? Am I asking for too much.. by that, I mean, is it possible?

Well, it wouldn't do me any good to save my current file because I can't uninstall that mod even if I wanted to. It was never installed. I had a problem with it and you fixed my post.template.php file for me. :)
I just tried this new file and... it works perfectly!!!!! Thank you so much! This definitely makes the posting process easier. Some of my members were confused because they couldn't use them when doing a reply. Now they won't see it at all - only on a new post. I really do appreciate the help!!! It's not too likely that I'd ever want to remove it - I like it!!! :)
awsome........
You know, I thought it worked okay but unfortunately, it didn't. Somehow, it wiped out another mod I had that put a box around text and there were lots of errors when I checked my error page. So, I just went back to the very first file I uploaded here and grabbed that and all the errors went away. I had to reinstall my box mod and that works fine too. So, now I'm back where I was.
Will try this mod again but not today.

In tests I did, (i remember) also i had errors, but, because you have installed some MODs that I haven't.
I found no error related to the change I made. And, while our forums are different, this should not change.
However, Could you write like these errors? :)
Well, I would but I no longer have them. I keep my board pretty "clean" and if there are errors, I check them out, then delete.
I will download the mod and give it another try and see how that goes. Thanks!!
Is there any way to set these rows to automatically go to the next row after a certain number of message icons. I know there is, because I've done it before, but I forgot how. I tried searching on here, but couldn't find it again.
Here's a screenshot showing you what I mean:
Ok, you can try.
foreach ($context['icons'] as $x => $icon)
echo '
<input type="radio" name="icon" value="', $icon['value'], '"', $icon['value'] == $context['icon'] ? ' checked="checked"' : '', ' /><img src="', $icon['url'], '" alt="', $icon['name'], '" title="', $icon['name'], '" />', (($x+1) % 6) ? '' : '<br />';
And tell me :)
Note: I haven't tested this.

No es problema del MOD, algo debe haberte pasado.
Pero intenta restaurar todos los archivos backup (.php~), pero solo los modificado más reciente. (es decir, los que cambió este MOD).
O si no los tienes, entonces has la desinstalación manual.
--
Isn't a problem MOD's. Something must have ocurred.
But try to restore the backup files (.php~), but only the most recently modified (ie, changed for this MOD).
Or if you don't have them, then you have the manual uninstall.
hum vale, voy a probar hacer eso aver q tal me sale , gracias.

Hi,
Here is an other option to break the icons in two rows:
foreach ($context['icons'] as $x => $icon)
echo '
<input type="radio" name="icon" value="', $icon['value'], '"', $icon['value'] == $context['icon'] ? ' checked="checked"' : '', ' /><img src="', $icon['url'], '" alt="', $icon['name'], '" title="', $icon['name'], '" />', ($icon['name'] == 'solved') ? '' : '<br />';This option allows for greater accuracy.

I tried using this one on RC3 but it said the files were corrupt when I tried to install it. I noticed that the one on the mod page says its only compatible with ".1.6, 1.1.7, 1.1.8, 2.0 Beta 4, 2.0 RC1" however it parses for RC3. Has anyone tried that one yet?
Just because it parses doesn't mean it works. The mod may not have a version number set in it.

yes I know, thats why I asked if anyone has tried it yet :). An official update would be better, but It was already asked for back on March 31st and hasnt been done so I figured the mod auth either doesnt have the time to do it, or they have stopped support on it all together.

The older one says it's for RC2, and the most recent attachment says it is for RC3, which you are using(actually works for both). It is only a small change between versions.
I'll remove the attachment you mentioned, as it is nolonger needed.
ok I will try that one and let you know, thanks :). Sorry, since there was only one letter difference on the file names all I did was glance at the name so I didnt catch the difference :).
it worked for me.
;)
Well except a theme error.
:(
installed like a charm and appears to be working good with no errors :).
I only have one theme right now since the upgrade and it uses all the default themes files so it was good to go.
That's great to hear Kimmie :)
p.s. Never apologise for such a small mishap buddy :) We all miss something one time or another.
Enjoy :)
TheListener, your theme error shouldn't be too difficult to correct, as this mod only edits 2 templates and a few lines(remember to add the css edits for custom themes aswell).
If you have any difficulty editing the file, then attach your themes Post.template.php
Here ya go kiddo.
;D
What is the issue exactly?
The code is installed correct.
This is your custom themes template yeah?
This installed without error and has been working flawlessly for me :)
it's not compatible with rc3

Post a screen pic of what you're seeing.
Otherwise, an easy way is to edit the width value in the css template.
To Everybody else

The mod works on 2.0.4 already.
Have a read of the Mod Emulate link in my signature.
Dont work in 2.0.7.
is an update planned?
Works fine, just installed on 2.0.8, all you need to do is post.template.php:
Find:
<dd>
<select name="icon" id="icon" onchange="showimage()">';
// Loop through each message icon allowed, adding it to the drop down list.
foreach ($context['icons'] as $icon)
echo '
<option value="', $icon['value'], '"', $icon['value'] == $context['icon'] ? ' selected="selected"' : '', '>', $icon['name'], '</option>';
echo '
</select>
<img src="', $context['icon_url'], '" name="icons" hspace="15" alt="" />
</dd>
Replace:
<dd>
<div>';
// Loop through each message icon allowed, adding it to the drop down list.
foreach ($context['icons'] as $icon)
echo '
<input type="radio" name="icon" value="', $icon['value'], '"', $icon['value'] == $context['icon'] ? ' checked="checked"' : '', ' /><img src="', $icon['url'], '" alt="', $icon['name'], '" style="vertical-align: top;" title="', $icon['name'], '" />';
echo '
</div>
</dd>
