Otsikko: used invalid characters for admin username, now can't login
Kirjoitti: joshhuggins - helmikuu 03, 2005, 02:04:58 IP
Noob alert! I just installed SMF 1.0.1 as my first attempt at running a message board, and I setup my administration user name using a carot (<) in the username and went through setting up a bumch of stuff for the boads, and now I can not login because a carot is an invalid character.  Is there a way to reset the admin account, by copying a file from the original install files?  I don't really want to go through the stuff I setup already. Any ideas? While I'm at it, thanks to Simple machine for such an awsome program, for us little guys who are not a big corprate power house to be able to have a well functional message board with out having to bang our heads too much! Thanks in advance for any help all.

here's a way to change the name instead of what you're asking
if you use phpmyadmin, login and browse to smf's database, click on smfprefix_members
click on Browse, there you'll find all your members info, then you can change the name to whatever you want

Actually, that will cause problems too.  Your password will not work anymore!

You can log in using your email address, and then change your username.
