Whenever I or any other member of my forums ( www.closecombatsquad.com ) attempts to upload an attachment that is large (like 5MB), I get an error saying
LainaaYour attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.
Please consult your server administrator for more information.
I have checked permissions and all member groups can upload and view attachments. I have also set attachement sizes to their maximums. There is nothing I can find to explain this issue I'm experiencing. Also, server space is unlimited. Any fixes or suggestions?

Hmm, this is also occuring here: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=26924.0
Going to see if Unknown has seen it before.
Yea, thanks. If anyone else has any ideas at all, please reply. Thanks.

Could you give a link to a phpinfo? What is phpinfo.php? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=18250.0)

Here you go.

I know this isn't my topic, but since I happen to have the same problem (and posted a topic about it a few days ago), I thought I'd post a link to my php info as well.
I've got both the attachment problem as well as the avatar problem (won't upload from a random computer AND won't use an avatar from an extern website) on both my forums.

Yea, no problem. He can kill two birds with one stone :P ;D

upload_max_filesize is 2M in every phpinfo posted here. That would be why larger files cannot be uploaded. You'll either need the setting updated by your host to a higher value (2M is simply the default) or you may be able to raise it using .htaccess, like so:
php_value upload_max_filesize "16M"
Sorry, twinklewitch. I used to be much faster, but the combination of increased usage of this forum and my increased workload has left me with many topics I still urgently need to get to. I'm sorry that your topic, as well as countless (well, actually, about 12 pages of them) others, was as yet ignored.
I'll try to post more in your other topic.

I opened the .htaccess file and there was nothing in there that said anything about uploading.

Sorry, I was unclear. By default, your .htaccess file will either not exist, or not say anything about uploading - yes. This information I am referencing comes from your php.ini file, which is a file you probably cannot access. However, you can (depending on your host!) override the values in php.ini with your own, in .htaccess. To override them, add the line I mentioned above.
Some hosts do not allow this. Attempting to override will give you a big ugly 500 error in these cases.

I do have access to all files on my server so I will attempt to change it and get back to you with my results.

What now?
Also, [Unknown], I was unable to access my php.ini file :( Do you have any idea where it could possibly be if my server uses cpanel?

Most likely, it's in /etc/php.ini. Or maybe files in /etc/php.d/. You'll need to be root. You can also try:
# locate php.ini
Which should work, at least, on cPanel hosts - I believe.

Thanks, I'll look into that.

I should also mention - you may wish to change, as well, max_input_time and post_max_size as well.

Forgive me, I'm a moron. Its path is shown in the phpinfo:
/usr/local/Zend/etc/php.ini
