Title: Custom Users Import (password issue)
Post by: roamer on February 13, 2005, 11:24:07 AM
Hi guys, only a little one, hopefully you can answer this one straight away.....

I'm wanting to do a custom import of users from another BB (old old version of webwiz *cough* *cough*)

Anyway, I've got a minor export from the other database into the mysql database, but now need to do a translation across into the SMF tables.... and my sticking point is the password encryption.....

I have the passwords unencrypted currently, and need to obviously encrypt them before I insert them into the SMF table (including the salt too of course) - but how do I do this?

Any help guys would be great, I'd really like to do it just by sql as my php is a bit rusty, but I will do it if it is my only option....

Just MD5 them, SMF will automatically detect this and upgrade the encryption for you as your users log in.

Lovely, thanks very much for getting back to me, just tried it and it works great, now to just translate all the data over, 4000 users, over 500,000 posts etc etc etc...... oh well, once it's scripted it's scripted LoL
