hi NIBOGO
i have an idea for this mod
if you combine this mod with you bbc tag
then we will have a main Pm that after new user registration the only thing should done is add a pm_recipients to new user
in big forums having a pm for any new users cause big databases
i think with this we will have a more optimum code
Does this mod automatically generate and send a pm to each new member or do you have to manually send each one? What I mean is, if it's not automatic, then you can just have your forum set up to send you an email each time someone registers and then just send them a pm without the use of a mod.

I don't know if this has any relevance at all but it just started working as of today. The strange thing here is I was having an issue with another mod (Shout Box) and we disabled "Search engine friendly URLs" option and that cleared up the issue on the Shout Box. Now these two mods are also working so I wonder if this is not related to that as well :o

I don't think so
We did not think it would affect the other mod either but it did :D
Thank you :D.
This is a great mod! Only question: might it be possible to set a delay time for when this is sent? As it is now, AS SOON as a member registers, they receive the PM. Most people understand this means a computer is sending the PM and makes it not feel personal. If there could be a timed delay of maybe 9 hours or 18 hours, I think it would make the PM feel like it was sent personally from the admin to that member. The reason I suggest 9 hours or 18 hours is because a "clean" time of 24 hours or something might be noticeable as well.
Doesn`t seem to work for me ......
i have tested with a fake member but no pm received .....
i have set id of sender 0
name of sender a name that doesn`t exist in forum
is this ok?
You should at least set it to 1, which should be you. You want, and probably need, at least SOME member's name on the PM being sent.

Hope you are getting in to some new ways of attracting users.
But sure they may remain for max 12 mins in my site.
If they've taken the time to register, they may not post, but they usually return at least a couple more times.

Question:
Should a new member besides a PM also automaticaly receive a notification email that they have a PM waiting for them to see?
(I do see that the PM is sent to the new member, but the member doesn't get a notification email.
When I send a PM manually to that member, the member does receive a notification email. )
@NIBOGO This is a marvelous mod and it should be the default feature of SMF.
I have suggestion and Request which is indeed a must have.
There should be a check uncheck option where we can choose
that either save this greeting personal message in database or
just send it? Like we have option in Personal area to save it in
SENT items..
My forum has daily 40 to 80 new registerations and my personal
Meassege Table is getting bigger and bigger due to this...
Can you suggest me that how and where i can chnage its value to 0
quickly so that i can stop it on my forum...
Forum link: http://gstek.info
What do you mean with "we can choose that either save this greeting personal message in database or just send it?" I really don't undestand what are you looking for, I mean the only part of this mod add values in the DB is the PM'S of each member, obviouslly if you don't add this value they never will see the welcome message

Another RC2 bump.
I have it installed on RC2. My previous error is gone. It appeared on a test site, but it doesn't appear after I upgraded my actual forum to RC2, so it may have been a fluke. Anyway, try installing manually.

Finally, I find this mod, and thanks dude.
I have a request...
Would it be possible to implement an option, to either choose to send to only selected member groups, and/or to create separate messages to be sent to new members depending on which member group they are added to upon joining the site?
I'd like to use this on my RPG forum, but I'd like to have selected options, for example:
Player accounts are sent with a PM, welcoming them to the forum, and giving instructions on where to go next and how to get into the swing of everything. But I'd like to know that persona accounts created and added to Player accounts, aren't sent the same PM upon their creation.

It's a good idea but isn't going to be added as I don't have time to develop new features on this free mod
Would you be able to tell me where and what kind of changes would need to be made? I could probably figure out how to do it myself, but I don't know where I'd need to start...
I'd offer a payment for you to do it for me, but I won't have any money to spare for several months; I'm on a very tight budget at the moment, but plenty of spare time so I'd be happy to try playing with the codes myself, if you are okay with that.

That is just like create a new package with that feature included, as I said, not for free
No, it's not. It's "can you give me a hint, so I know where to start".
I didn't ask you to remake it for free. And if you read it properly, I said if I had the money, I'd pay.
I don't, so I asked for information on where to start my OWN adjustments, not you to write up the adjustments for me to implement.
man this is such a sweet mod and small however i have checked everything all edits are there but it will not work i have it enabled and everything but no pm gets sent i have done 2 test registrations ad no pm can someone help me gimme an idea of what i am missing please i really want this mod

It has to be an issue with your server or settings or just re-install it mod is working great on an SMF Installation without additional mods
i have reinstalled it a few times and still same thing it just will not work
ok when i installed it i did get 2 errors they were in the files i have attached can someone take a look at these and see if they are correct they sure look good to me
but the mod is not working at all
thanks maybe i am missing something
you should copy and paste errors here... to see wich code was not added...
do a parse of the mod, and check your files... then try to add code "by hand"
sorry i didn't explain correctly there are only 2 edits in those files when the mod installs and they both errored so i added manually using the parser and making the edits
thats why i attached the files for someone to look at to make sure i did everything right cause this makes no sense man it is a small mod and i know what i am doing i have installed massive mods manually but i just do not understand why this will not work
I couldn't get this one to work either, a shame.
i just upgraded to RC3 and it works for me now post a list of your mods toy have installed
I am on RC3.
Mods i have installed that are PM related are:
Enhanced PM Warning Message & PM Auto Responder
i have neither of those installed and it works for me have you tried uninstalling those
Yeah, those are more important to me than this one so even if i did uninstall them and this one worked, i'd still be worse off.
While i appreciate your help, i did post here with the intention of hearing back from the mod author.
well i am not the author!!!
But what i am saying is don't you think it would be helpful to support if you knew if it was one of those mods were causing the conflict
just a thought
good luck man !!!!
I don't I test it and it works pretty well, you should check if the code added by this mod is there.
Just found this mod but am curious about something...
Doesnt it kind of defeat the purpose to select the username of a sender when technically it should match the ID of the sender ?

I won't add an extra query just for that and in that way people can use a non-existing account if they want to.

It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. If you look below that message in the list of steps, you should be able to see which step is throwing the message. If you're installing this on a theme, you may have to make manual edits.
Which step was throwing the error?
When will this have support for RC4? I am waiting until my main modifications (the important ones) have RC4 support before I upgrade. This is holding me back.
I'm pretty busy atm, I'll update my mods when I can (Hardly in November).
Ok. I will wait until Start of December (ish, whenever you finish, also please update Advanced Topic Prefix when you get the chance) to update my live RC3 site. I have a test RC4 site, I will test it there right now.

Still, that isn't legal...
A RC5 release must be nice, NIBOGO! ;)

Can you tell me where to change the width and height of the PM textbox used to hold the message that's sent? I'd like to reduce its height a bit.
My PM's aren't being sent, or at least that's how it appears.
I register a new member, logout, and then login as the new member, and no PM is in my inbox.

hello
any help for this what i wright in side i don't understand please any help
*Select the ID of the sender
*Select the Username of the sender
*The subject of the PM
The message of the PM (BBCODE)
This is where you set the message that you would like to send to the user. To insert the username of the user just insert "{$username}". For forum name use "{$forumname}".
*Select the ID of the sender - this is the User ID of the person you want the welcome PM to appear to come from (probably your User ID).
*Select the Username of the sender - this is the name of the person you want the welcome PM to appear to come from (probably your username).
*The subject of the PM - this is what the title of the PM will show, i.e. "Welcome to our forum".
thanks for help . MrMike
but i wright same what you said but still same problem i don't get any pm
please check this pic.attc.
anybody any help please
Is your user ID "0"?I don't know, but that might not be a valid user ID (I don't know if it matters, but it's a guess).
For a test, for the name I'd just put your actual user ID and actual username and see what happens.
For the subject I'd also just put in some simple text with no replacement vars, i.e. "Welcome to the forum" (again, just as a test).

Any clues why the mod might not be working with 2.0.2? It installed without any error, yet it doesn't work at all. :(

Everyone, if you have installed this correctly & it doesn't seem to work, check to see if you've completed the User ID & Username on the admin panel. The mod will not work without that info filled in. :) That's what happened to me.

http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/How_can_I_install_a_mod_that_doesn%27t_work_in_my_SMF_version

how to modify the posts in the admin panel
Hello,
Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I'm in need of a mod that would send an automated PM on new members registration, and this looks exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work on SMF 2.0.10. :-\
I can install it through package manager fine, and all the settings are there. The only problem is that it doesn't actually send a PM to new members. Is there any chance for this mod to be updated? Or could anyone provide me with an alternative? I just registered, so I don't really know how things work around here. Hope someone is able to help me out.
To get this to work on 2.0.11 I had to make a small change to Sources/Subs-Members.php following installation:
// PM to New Members - Select the Username and the ID of the sender
if (!empty($modSettings['pm_register_id']) && !empty($modSettings['pm_register_username'])){
// Set the PM Body with all the settings
$pm_words = array(
'{$username}', '{$forumname}'
);
$pm_register_body = str_replace($pm_words,
array(
$regOptions['username'],
'[url=' .$scripturl. ']' .$context['forum_name']. '[/url]',
),
$modSettings['pm_register_body']
);
$pm_register_body = preg_replace('~<br(?: /)?' . '>~', "\n", $pm_register_body);
$pm_register_body = un_htmlspecialchars($pm_register_body);
$pmfrom = array(
'id' => $modSettings['pm_register_id'],
'name' => $modSettings['pm_register_username'],
'username' => $modSettings['pm_register_username'],
);
$pmto = array(
'to' => array($memberID),
'bcc' => array()
);
}
// PM to New Members - Send the PM only if the mod is enable
if (!empty($modSettings['pm_register_subject']) && !empty($modSettings['pm_register_body']) && !empty($modSettings['pm_register']) && !empty($modSettings['pm_register_id']) && !empty($modSettings['pm_register_username']))
sendpm($pmto,$modSettings['pm_register_subject'],$pm_register_body, 0, $pmfrom);
// PM to New Members - Select the Username and the ID of the sender
if (!empty($modSettings['pm_register_id']) && !empty($modSettings['pm_register_username'])){
// Set the PM Body with all the settings
$pm_words = array(
'{$username}', '{$forumname}'
);
$pm_register_body = str_replace($pm_words,
array(
$regOptions['username'],
'[url=' .$scripturl. ']' .$context['forum_name']. '[/url]',
),
$modSettings['pm_register_body']
);
$pm_register_body = preg_replace('~<br(?: /)?' . '>~', "\n", $pm_register_body);
$pm_register_body = un_htmlspecialchars($pm_register_body);
$pmfrom = array(

Even with your edit and the proper ID, Sender name, etc. in settings, Shambles, it's not working (functioning at all) for me. So I was wondering... I'm testing this by creating new registrations, then logging in under those usernames to see if I have a PM. Officially, however, registration is disabled. So, even though I manually created the new users, must registration be enabled in order for this mod to work?

And if it does, can you give me instructions on how to get it working?
Instructions for all ..... 1) Settings menu : Admin>>Members>Registration>Settings
2) Setup example : *Select the ID of the sender ..........
1 ... this is default ID of forum Administrator (if you use second account as Global moderator then use this specific account ID)
Account ID this is visible to administrators ( 0 ID does not belong to any account - this detail causes most confusions)
*Select the Username of the sender ... Simply add text of your own account name
*The subject of the PM .................... Example.... Important: Your first day at (name of your forum)
This mod works just once per new member registration. PM should be a guide (reminder) of specific topics that a new member should be aware of.
My own text of PM for new members. ( example) This is automated welcome message and a guide of details that all new members should be aware of.
