Hi this is my first simplemachines board and im highly satisfied with it. :)
however, what i need is a simple add comments | read comments feature that i can
implement anywhere on my site, be it a news blog or a downloadable song.
it should use the board engine and the board's user account data, but the comment
post shouldnt appear in the forum itself.
check out http://www.croupbeatz.com/new/ as an example.. the news blog is created
manually (that's how it supposed to be)... now how can i have people commenting on it?
ps: i've tried the mod "tiny portal" which seemed to offer this feature, but it
changed the whole look of my board whem i installed it.
thanks in advance,
croup
You can use the ssi_recentPosts function in SMF to show recent posts from a particular board or boards. It treats replies as comments...
alright i think i got you. i'll give it a try. thanks a lot.
well that wasn't it really.
i want the user to be lead to a specific post that he can reply to when he uses the add comment link. i don't want all the forum surrounding, just the messageindex page or the post content. no forum overview or anything like that. myspace.com is a perfect example for what i'm trying to achieve. they have add comment links everywhere and each leads you to a simple guestbook type page.
Hmm... sounds like you're looking for a basic portal/similar functionality. How much PHP do you know?

not too much... just got into it through smf actually
i've tried to set up varations of the template pages so that the comment feature shows the needed html only. at some point the relations weren't correct any longer and the alternate board didn't work properly.
what i'm trying to do now is install a second smf board into a different folder and have it use the same database tables. i hope this won't cause any problems.
it could also be done if it's possible to have multiple blog (news) pages with individual topic.
alright i have two different forums now using the same user accounts. i'll make the second one a tiny comment forum in a pop up window. not the nicest solution but it's simple.
